James Cordier is a master of intrigue, a brilliant thief, a first-class lover, and an intimate friend of danger - all for King and Country - and thoroughly sick of it. He just has to complete one last mission, and then he can retire peacefully, and resume his aristocratic life in Regency London, where his most dangerous task will be courting sweet, respectable heiresses. But first, James must charm a set of incriminating letters from a woman who is anything but quiet or respectable: the notorious Francesca Bonnard.
Francesca Bonnard has overcome heartbreak, scorn, and scandal to become independent, happy, and definitely fallen! She's learned the hard way that "gentlemen" are far more trouble than they're worth, so she can certainly see that her wildly attractive new neighbor is bad news.
But as bad as James is, others - far worse - are also searching for Francesca's letters. And, as James and Francesca are thrust ever closer, suddenly nothing is simple - especially the nearly incendiary chemistry between the two most jaded, sinful souls in Europe. And just as suddenly, risking every danger seems to be worth every reward.

"It's so good to be bad"
Great characters, great story. Another good read from Loretta Chase. Kate Reading is wonderful, as usual.
"Exciting and exotic"
This is a favourite book, lush settings, great characters and lots of humour and emotional connection
"LOVED LOVED LOVED! Do not miss this one!"
Francesca and James are PERFECT TOGETHER!!!! Loretta Chase has a knack for creating great characters with even better chemistry! The back and forth banter between these two is AMAZING! The story is interesting, but honestly - the dialogue between Francesca and James is just what makes the book. On top of great main characters - there are a bevy of supporting characters that are an absolute riot at times and just as well written. Loretta Chase is definitely in my top 5 writers and this is in the top 5 of the books she's written.
That being said - I KNOW that the characters of this book could not come alive as they do without Kate Reading! She is the MASTER of making characters interactions and banter come to life! She is the best all around narrator I have listened to..from romance, to Epic Fantasy she makes it all come alive!
WORTH 2 CREDITS in my opinion! Do not miss this one!
"As usual, a wonderful read/listen"
I enjoyed this book very much. Loretta Chase writes intelligent, well written stories. Her characters are intricately developed. Wonderful book!
Chase's books are incredibly fun to listen to. her characters come alive and keep you engaged. Kate Reading is incredible. Love her books
I listen to these stories after an especially dark, depressing story. They make me smile, laugh and always have a happy ending! This author is the only one I listen to in this genre and haven't had a bad listen yet! Narrated to perfection...her "he said, she said" always make me smile...try one!
"Good start to a new series"
Although it took me a bit to get into this book I really liked it.
The setting, in Venice, is not your usual Regency location. The heroine being a noted harlot is also not typical. But the story is interesting and the characters' dialogue is delightful.
Kate Reading does her usual excellent job with the narration.
This new series has potential but it is, after all, Loretta Chase!
"Good, but nothing gripping"
Enjoyed it, but it didn't keep me hanging on. No twists to the plot that I enjoy.
"Another wonderful romance from Loretta Chase, one of my favorite authors"
I love the characters in this book. Francesca is such a wonderful change from the innocent misses of so many books. She's a woman of the world and doesn't care who knows. She's making her way on her on terms.
