Summary

The sixth volume in the award-winning Tomorrow series.

"I lay there, heart still pounding from the shock of seeing the man surrender and then get killed, the shock of seeing so much blood, more blood than I'd even seen from one person before...."

They are the enemy. And they're still out there. They're in your street, your home, the safest places you know. You feel their hot breath, even in the depths of hell. Ellie and Homer are out there too. Lee and Fi and Kevin. They've forgotten what it means to be safe. Sometimes they feel like there's nowhere left for them. They may be right.

Critic reviews

"There are plenty of dramatic, fast-paced battle scenes with lots of action and carnage, which is vividly depicted. Ellie wrestles with her conscience throughout the story." ( School Library Journal)

Leaving Stratton and heading back to hell...

This book starts with them still in Stratton, Ellie is worried about the street kids they have found whilst staying in Stratton and goes off to try and help them with Lee. In the end they rescue the kids and have to flee Stratton because the enemy is after them. Where do they go? the only safe place they know is hell so that's where they go. The kids don't make it easy, they make it to the bush but the kids don't want to stay.

Its not all about the kids though, although of course its a huge part of it. Trying to look after them and keep them safe whilst staying safe them self and fighting this war. They decide to celebrate Christmas, to keep them all going and give them something to live for. This plan doesn't go as easily as they hoped, you still get some action as some of the teens go off to raid for food. The question still remains, are they safe in hell? maybe they can't take it for granted anymore...

This story will keep you wanting more, it might not be as action packed as some of the others but its still good. Its not easy for anyone and they are all struggling, war is hard and it changes who you are.

Highly Recommended. As we have said about his other books in the series, these books are suitable for all and not just for teens. We are adults and we have enjoyed every single book in this series. The author writes brilliantly and pulls you into the story and the narrator well she is fantastic too. She adds to the enjoyment of the book and we couldn't imagine these books being read by anyone else.
