What the Critics Say

"Vampire and werewolf lovers beware; this trilogy opener offers readers a new take on an unexpected breed of mystical beings. Readers who can suspend preconceived notions and open themselves up to this new interpretation are in for a midwinter version of a good beach read." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Wendy is a flawed antihero, which helps differentiate her from the throng of paranormal-romance heroines, and the potential for development, both dramatic and romantic, should make readers anxious for the next installment of the Trylle trilogy." (Booklist)

"It was one of the best Troll stories I heard"
What did you love best about Switched?

It was intense it talked about switching babies at birth and how it affected the Trill community.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Wendy was my favorite because she wanted to change how the Trill lived and worked together.

What about Therese Plummer’s performance did you like?

She was a good reader with voice control on all the characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Wendy saw her brother for the first time and found out he was a Main Squeek in the home of her Mother

    "Good fantasy, unexpected twist."
Where does Switched rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As YA books go, this one is good. I like it well enough to pick up the next book in the series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Switched?

The way Wendy keeps trying even though life appears to have failed her many times, beginning with her nutsy mother. On the whole, I was not enamored with Wendy, but hopefully she matures in subsequent books.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Therese Plummer is a good narrator. She helped the story come alive. I would like to listen to her read other books.

    Any additional comments?

The story was interesting enough that I finished it, and will probably catch at least the next sequel, but I did not care for Wendy. She was too moody, shallow and changeable for my tastes.

    Story
    "Typical teen romance."

This is not one of those Young Adult titles that crosses over well for adult readers. Although it has paranormal characters, it's basically boils down to a flimsy romance and doesn't have much to really grab an adult reader's attention and hold it.

What made the experience of listening to Switched the most enjoyable?

Good story coupled with an easy listening performance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Switched?

The naming ceremony was so exciting I had to rewind and make sure I didn't miss something.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I become a successful multi tasker listening to my favorite books. Therese Plummer is very easy to follow and understand.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Makes you root for the bad guys

"great book ready for number 3!!"
What did you like about this audiobook?

I usually dont listen to books twice. but i might when #3 comes out and listen to the story line all together.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

When she goes to find her brother matt. and when she kissed finn. rooting for those two.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

She is an excellent reader, ALL authors should get her to read their books. She is amazing, one of the reasons I choose the book. It can be a great book but if you cant stand the reader it wont get listened to. You forget that there's ONE PERSON READING THE BOOK AND REALLY GET CAUGHT UP IN THE STORY, EVERYONE COMES TO LIFE WITH THERE OWN VOICE.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Just made me smile and kept me guessing. Just when you think you have figured out the way things are going to play out , something else changes and you have to keep listening!! good thing i listen while doing house work or nothing would ever get done.

Do you have any additional comments?

Good story, great reader, bring on number #3 and keep the good books coming!!

    "Loved It!"

I've never read one of Amanda Hocking's novels before, and I must say that I really enjoyed this one. Although there are some common romantic themes which tend to dominate all gothic novels these days, this one at least deals with a fresh variety of beings from a unique society that has not been done to death in the mould of vampires and werewolves. Theresa Plummer does a competent job with the narrative and it kept me interested and entertained.

Would you consider the audio edition of Switched to be better than the print version?

The performance of the story was excellent. Unfortunately, I did not like the book. I don't think it would have made a difference for me if I read the physical book or listening to it on audio.

    "Truly a teen series"

Having enjoyed so many books meant for teens/tweens (Riordan, Buckley, Rowlings), which have successfully bridged the generation gap and garnered significant adult followings, I gave this one a try. I can see where an 11-13 year old girl would enjoy the story, but it is so specifically tailored to it's intended audience that it gets carded at the gates to the older side of the gap and can't get in. However, if I were an 11-13 year old girl, this would be a complete rave.
