Sammy, a 14-year-old fugitive, accidentally discovers he has the powers of a Psion.
Plucked off the streets, he is thrust into the rigorously disciplined environment of Psion Beta headquarters. As a new Beta, Sammy must hone his newfound abilities using holographic fighting simulations, stealth training missions, and complex war games. His fellow trainees are other kids competing to prove their worth so they can graduate and contribute to the war effort.
But the stifling competition at headquarters isolates Sammy from his peers. Learning to use his incredible powers is difficult enough, but when things go horribly wrong on a routine training mission, he must rely on the other Betas to stay alive.
The Silent War is at a tipping point; even one boy can be the difference.
But to do so, he must survive.

... just drove me nuts after 16 minutes, leading to a return. I am part South African and have spent much time there. I know what a South African accent sounds like. Jeff Simpson does not. Unfortunately, the main character (Sammy) is South African and I couldn't handle listening to the accent being annihilated for another ten hours. I'm relieved I didn't get as far as having to hear what he did to Jeffie's voice!
Can't wait for book two Psion beta series book one I loved and people who like Michael Vey they will love this book with a touch with military and a touch of mind power can't wait to see wots next for Sam in the series
"Excellent audio for an excellent book"
I liked this book when I read it few years ago and the audio edition is a great addition to my library. The quality is great and the different voices really add flavor to the book. I have recommended the book to my friends and will now recommend the audio edition as well.
I like the action and character development.
"Amazing! Book 1 is only the tip of the iceberg!"
The Psion Series is one of my all-time favorites and the reader did a great job with book 1.
That was such a fun and entertaining story. It makes me want to know the characters and be a part of their world. Highly recommend!
Great story and clean language so you can listen with 13 and ups without concern. There is violence and blood so use your discretion.
"Fun book, good narratiom"
The story feels strongly influenced by Enders Game. It is mostly well written but has some bad metaphors that distracted from the telling of the story. I did enjoy the narration as the different voices allowed me to easily recognize each character.
