The thrillingly dark sequel to New York Times best seller, Divergent.

Beatrice's world is convincing and intriguing, and I enjoyed the way the story progressed, revealing more about the factions and their relationships as the book goes on.
The initiation process Beatrice goes through to join her chosen faction.
It'd have to be Beatrice, as it's told in the first person we get to know her pretty well!
I believe the film is already in production, but something like:
'In a world where your choices are made for you, one girl will learn to think for herself...'
The reader is very good, I find female narrators a little shrill sometimes, but Emma Gavin has an expressive and pleasant voice, and she convinced as Beatrice. If you enjoyed the Hunger Games, then this book shares much of its tone and themes, I recommend it!
Ki Life Coaching
I can't exactly put a finger on why exactly, but i did not find this as entertaining or gripping as the first one. I am looking forward to seeing the films and glad I've read the books first.
Emma Galvin performs this audiobook extremely well. Although she could do more with her voice tone to distinguish between the male and female characters a bit better. My only critique with the author is that the personality of Tris is so inconsistent. She has so many mood swings...
I would not but that is because I am not one for re-reading events
I cannot compare it to another book it is quite unique. A teen fiction of sorts I read years ago and decided to listen to this again after the film came out.
I enjoyed reading the story however I don't like the narration in the audio version, the accent seemed to flat.
There are some parts that have a level of humour and scary parts as well.
I would be more inclined to read this rather than listen
im not sure the author actually knew where she was going with the plot of this book. It took forever to reveal the secret that marcus was keeping, and even then it really wasnt clear. Why does Tris keep making promises she doesnt intend to keep? it just doesnt make any sense why four is with her!
i loved Divergent, friends recommended i didnt bother with allegient - i read he synopsis on wkipedia, the plot goes crazy.
love her as the voice of Tris, she has a very natural - teen sound.
yes if you want to know the big secret
didnt bother with allegient - it just seemed to get weirder
The reader's voice is very soothing and perfect for the role of Tris. The entire trilogy was brilliant because of her voice.
Hunger games trilogy. The plots are very similar
No. I believe this was the first
It is not a top ranking book but a good book to fill time when doing boring tasks, not one i would just stop everything to listen to.
I enjoyed the first and now the second book, if you like the rise and fight back of the down trodden then you will enjoy this, also has a few good twists like the first book. Will definitely get the third book.
Lover of nice voices :)
I thought Emma Galvin did a wonderful job reading so I'd definitely try her work again. As for Veronica Roth, I'd probably tread carefully from now on.
It was simply too brutal for me. I thought the first book was interesting, the characters well rounded, but eventually it became the book equivalent of an ego shooter game for me. It turned so bleak that I simply couldn't stick with it anymore.
No, this was my first.
Well it has a follow up book. I read a plot summary and decided to stop listening immediately when I did. There is only so much bleakness I find enjoyable.
This is a well written book. If unhappy situations don't put you off then I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm too sensitive though and if you're a parent reading this, I'd certainly think twice before letting my child enjoy this.
Tris and Four
Emma Galvin narrated both Divergent and Insurgent. Aaron Stanford and Emma Galvin narrated Allegiant. Althought Emma has a good voice for narration, she was not good at playing different roles. I frequently got confused as to which character was speaking when Emma narrated.
Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant by Veronica Roth.
I really enjoyed this series. The characters were well written and the story was ... if not original, certainly engaging. The books look at the theme of humanity and the characteristics that are displayed by it ... how some people are stronger, some are more peace loving, some more daring, some more intelligent etc.
It also looks at the cruelty of mankind and how some people are able to harm others' without emotion ... as though their victims are not real people with loves and feelings of their own.
I really liked the characters of Tris and Four. Four felt that he had to be strong. He'd had a brutal childhood that left him emotionally scarred. Tris came from a loving home but was equally strong ... in spirit, if not in body. Through his love of Tris, Four is able to to let down his guard and realise that he doesn't need to put on the "brave front" he has always shown. He is allowed to face his demons and show weakness.
Tris learns that she must shake the ties of her past, as weakness will prevent her survival. She has always known that she didn't fit into her family's ideals and so seeks her real place in the world.
What happens next pushes her to the limit of her abilities. She has to be tough ... sometimes she has to make choices that seem uncaring or ruthless ... but to survive and to care for those she loves, she has no choice.
I was taken by surprise at the twist at the end of Allegiant ... I can't say more without spoilers but I was unhappy with the turn that the book took ... even though it did add realism to the story.
This was Roth's debut series. I really enjoyed it and will definitely read more by this author.
This was as gripping as the first book and I couldn't stop listening. It was engaging from the start and action packed. I can't wait to download the third installment.
"Loved the first but this is disappointing"
Perhaps I had too high expectations because I enjoyed the first book. This is not worth the time, just finish with book one I recommend.
awesome story awesome listen, really enjoyed it a lot. cant wait for the movie thanks
"Great reader; bookmark suggestion"
Liked the reader - she was very expressive.
Didn't dislike anything.
Great quality, except I wish the bookmark would just rewind by 5-10 seconds so you remember where you were.
"It was ok"
The narrator spoke very clearly. Had all the right intonation and made the book interesting.
Although there was a lot of repetition of the word " frown" and others.
The book was still really well written with a lot of details.
"Not that enjoyable"
Very jumpy, unbelievable situations, and annoying circumstances. Hard to follow and just not the best. Will listen to book three but hoping it goes back to being like book 1.
"A brilliant follow up story"
A brilliant follow up story, I can't wait to hear the third part of the series especially as the second film is about to be released. The book was a great and fast paced journey except around the two thirds part where I felt it slowed down and stalled just a bit. I also thought the story telling was a little to monotone for my liking and that most likely is not the book readers fault, but probably has more to do with how the actual main characters personality is portrayed. It has a fantastic ending with a twist that I personally did not quite expect that has left me quite literally hanging on the edge of my seat to hear the next part of the story.
"Got through it"
He said, she said over and over again, please veronica think of something else to say instead! I have never heard these words repeated so often in a audio book.
Most interesting was 4's relationship with his family.
While I enjoyed the first book in this series, based on this book, I will not finish the trilogy. It lacked so much that the first book had. I didn't care for any of the characters, didn't feel for any of them and I couldn't have cared if they lived or died. Frankly I don't remember who is doing what and where or with who because I just stopped caring. Perhaps a second listen could convince me otherwise but I doubt that I'll bother.
