Extras, the final book in the Uglies series, is set a couple of years after the "mind-rain", a few earth-shattering months in which the whole world woke up. The cure has spread from city to city, and the pretty regime that kept humanity in a state of bubbleheadedness has ended. Boundless human creativity, new technologies, and old dangers have been unleashed upon the world. Culture is splintering, the cities becoming radically different from each other as each makes its own way into this strange and unpredictable future....
One of the features of the new world is that everyone has a "feed", which is basically their own blog/Myspace/TV channel. The ratings of your feed (combined with how much the city interface overhears people talking about you) determines your social status - so everyone knows at all times how famous they are.
As Scott Westerfeld explored the themes of extreme beauty in the first three Uglies books, now he takes on the world's obsession with fame and popularity. And how anyone can be an instant celebrity.

"sadly, not as good"
I absolutely loved the first three books in the series to a point where I just couldn't put it down! Extras was just not a book that kept my interest and it was like a chore to read.
I do want to thank Scott Westerfeld for the beautiful adventure I found in the other three!
"Was this really from the same author???"
I really enjoyed the first 3 books this sounded like it was written by a tween. It kept repeating the same tired slang. It was boredom -making!!!!
The actress had 2 voices, female and lower.
It took will power to make it to the end. Really, you should have stopped at the 3rd book.
"Reader ruined it"
different reader from previous book copies i have; i guess they changed the producing company. totally ruined the series for me
"loved the overall story Uglies to Extras"
loved the story as a whole, all four together. I didn't like the performance as much in this one as in the other three, but still pretty good. I liked the first three the most, but this was still good and gave a little more closure.
I love the Uglies series, but this book disappointed me. While the story of Aya's city and its reputation economy was interesting, I felt the plot wanted to achieve too much in the space of one book. I was excited to see the return of a certain beloved character, but she had changed too much to be believable in the course of three years. The Sly Girls characters served to help set up the story, but became almost irrelevant as the book progressed. And, as much as I tried, I couldn't like Aya-- throughout the book she's too shallow, too selfish, with very few redeeming moments.
"Not as good as Uglies..."
I didn't enjoy this as much as Uglies Pretties Specials. I was disappointed that the same voice actor was not used as well.
"A shift in soul"
I love this series and the first three books were awesome. But this forth...something just felt off. It seemed like there was a shift in soul. It was nice to see a little wrap up of all the characters in the end. But it just didn't seem to have that same spark that the other three had. Almost as if this book was rushed. The narrator for this book was not too bad. The female voices weren't bad but her male voices were terrible. Which to her credit, I understand. But it broke the immersion quite a bit. Either way, I love this series and am sad to see it end.
"It was actually really good"
Before I got this book I read the reviews first and was a little discouraged purchasing it due to the awful reviews it received. However my desire to finish the series compelled me more to purchase it anyway and as it turns out I don't know why the reviews was so bad. This book is incredible!! A great ending. Seeing everything in a different perspective is genius. I've enjoyed it a lot as I did the first 3 books.
I thought it was amazing
There was nothing bad about it and it was such a fun and interesting storyline.
"Not as good as the others in series"
I was really excited to find a 4th book in the series, but I don't think it lived up to the others. I was often bored and not able to really get a good picture of the scene. It was ok to read but nothing special.
