"Flat delivery and inconsistencies in the story"
I did not finish this book. I listened to it for a couple of hours and was practically bored to tears. The narrator's delivery was rather flat and she kept say "vagley" instead of vaguely, it drove me nuts. Then it got to the point where something was stated that completely contradicted something stated earlier and I was done.
"The story is very good, but the narrator kills it."
I switched to the Kindle version. I like the story. It is worth reading. The narrator was VERY hard to listen to and I did not enjoy her reading at all. She read too fast and her voice was irritating. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I had to stop listening to this audible version based on her reading.
NO - I will never listen to Amanda Friday again. The narrator was VERY hard to listen to and enjoy. She read too fast and her voice was SO irritating. There was no change in voices with the characters and it was hard to tell who was speaking (Man or woman - angel etc.....).
I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I had to stop listening to this audible version based on her reading. I finished reading this in the kindle version and enjoyed the book.
Before I made this purchase, I read that the narrator was bad. I usually don't let that stop me. I should have just purchased the kindle version only.
Don't judge Mary Ting based on this narrator. Her books are very good.
No - I could not listen past the 4th chapter. I really....really tried to listen. I noticed that Mary Ting is now using Emma Lysy as a narrator. Emma is getting good reviews. I am not going to give up on Mary Ting's books. I plan on listening to Emma read as soon as I finish the kindle verson of Between.
"Amazing story, but the worst narrator EVER!"
I love Audible! if you really knew me, you'd know how rare it is for me to write a review. The narrator is god awful! Thank goodness the story is good enough to put up with it.
"Not too shabby"
The story is awesome. The narrator could use some help. I almost returned the book right away, but am glad I didn't. She's not nails on a chalk board but she is very monotone and boring. I didn't feel like she connected with the book as most of the narrations I listen to do. Hopefully the next books narration is better but seriously I really love this book. Great beginning although just a bit predictable.
I think I could like the story, but it sounds like it was written by a high school English teacher who wishes her students wrote/ talked that way. It is written from the perspective of a teenage girl and teenaged girls just don't talk the way her main character speaks. Heck I'm a teacher and I don't talk that way. It's like she wrote a cool story outline then went through and improved the vocabulary the way we teach kids to do with a six traits rubric under word choice. I could probably handle it if I were reading it but to hear a professional blunder through with improbable vocabulary and limited affect just isn't doing it for me. I'm going to try to finish on my kindle cause I think there's potential.
"Can't wait for the next book!"
I have listened to this book a couple of times and I am sure I will listen to it again in the future. I can't wait to read/listen to all the other books in this series. Great characters and story!
"Worst Narrative performance ever"
It was so painful and boring listening to the narration of this novel, I had to turn it off and use text to speech instead. I'm so sorry I didn't listen to the sample first, foolishly I bought it because the price was $1.99.
"Good storyline, not so great narration."
I had read the Kindle book a long time ago and enjoyed the story. I figured that I would enjoy the spoken version as well.
The Narrator sounded so uninterested in the story that she was reading.
I gave her 2 stars as she had very clear pronunciation which helped me to hear all the words.
I dreaded the chapter announcements and almost did not finish listening.
The story was pretty good, but the performance was awful. Her voice was flat and monotone throughout the whole thing. Atrocious.
