"Compulsively readable ... Packed with battles, romantic entanglements, and tantalizing foreshadowing, this will have readers clamoring for the next installment." (Booklist)
Makes me sad how many people can give this rubbish a high rating. Cringe. Clever plot twists? Nononononono ... Poorly thought out & random
A good writer as an elegant top line story that's griping, and typically easy to understand, keeps the reader turning pages, and depth and layers which awesomeness is somehow grasped by everyone even though they don't necessarily understand it in depth.
This is not that.
story just nowhere near as exciting as the other cassandra claire books ive read, kind of unsatisfying and a lot less excitment. that said i will be getting the next one anyway. narrator i thought was fine.
This book wasn't bad, but it was no where near as good as the Mortal Instruments series. The plot was a bit too predictable and the characters weren't as engaging, although they might grow on me in time. The narration probably made the biggest difference. I found many of the accents over the top and grating- perhaps it would have been better to get a British narrator since the majority of the characters were British.
Two stars because of narrator. Great story. Very gripping. It's a"young " read .... I loved it (I'm only 54). Fast moving story. Despite vampires, werewolves and warlocks it wasn't hackneyed. What saves it is the strength of the characters and how much the reader is engaged in their hopes and fears, and their adventures are gripping and full of danger. my only criticism is that I got bored with the continual deliberate sexual tension between the characters which came across as contrived and unlikely.
The narration of both this book and the second in the series, however, is shocking. The female narrators are both shrill with dreadful accents. Awful. Thankfully if you can endure the first two, the third in the series is wonderfully read.
I would due to the fact that the story though predictable at moments was great. The pacing was sublime and all the characters where dripping with personality
Well worth listening to
The story mirrored Mortal Instruments quite a lot, same type of set up with characters etc. , but because it's been so long since I read them it was ok. The narrator was good to listen to.
Yes, good book, narrator took a while to get used to but ended up being really good!
Good use of voices for characters
"I love this series."
It had me not wanting to put it down. I loved Jems character the most.
"Lovely performance. Great plot."
I loved the story. Perhaps some characters overdid it but good nonetheless. Plot was interesting too.
"What a tangle."
This is a good listen and compliments the book well.
She reads the character's well.
Warlocks, demons, angels, automatons and oh yeah a love triangle.
This is a fantastic story that is easy to get lost in.
The relationships and fights are well balanced and both are equally interesting
She has done a brilliant job with all the characters.
