Caden Bosch is on a ship that's headed for the deepest point on Earth: Challenger Deep, the southern part of the Marianas Trench.
Caden Bosch is a brilliant high school student whose friends are starting to notice his odd behavior.
Caden Bosch is designated the ship's artist in residence, to document the journey with images.
Caden Bosch pretends to join the school track team but spends his days walking for miles, absorbed by the thoughts in his head.
Caden Bosch is split between his allegiance to the captain and the allure of mutiny.
Caden Bosch is torn.
A captivating and powerful novel that lingers long beyond the last tick, Challenger Deep is a heartfelt tour de force by one of today's most admired writers for teens.

"When handled well by a voice actor, an unreliable narrator is a delight-the narrator makes the listener believe in the character and then slowly reveals that all is not as it seems. Such is the work of Michael Curran-Dorsano as he narrates from the point of view of Caden Bosch..." (AudioFile)
The story documenting a fifteen year old boy's experience of mental illness is all of these and everything about it is made even better by the faultless reading which, with its range of characterisation and clarity must surely make it a candidate for one of Audible's best recordings. I shall never forget this book and will listen to it again.
Michael Curran-Dorsano does a perfect job encapsulating the thoughts and fears of a 15 year old boy. The voices and accents are flawless. I would LOVE to hear more from this narrator.
His accents and distinct voices for each and every character
"Schizo-Effect Disorder from the perspective of a 15 yr old boy"
I'm disappointed that the book description doesn't mention the Mental Disability of this 15 yr old boy, and what was going thru his mind, & happening with it, during his 1st Psychotic break. This is an excellent book for any parent, raising a teenager with Schizo-Effect, Bipolar, or any other mental disability that is challenging to both the teenager & parent! I have so much more insight as to what my daughter has been going thru since SHE was 15 yrs old! In someways I wish she had a Psychotic break before she finally did at age 19. There is so much more we would've been able to understand! Thank you to NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour for turning me on to this book! I absolutely loved it & pray I've learned to be more patient & understanding with my children!
"An unexpected journey"
I purchased this audio with one review from a good friend. She said, "You'll love it! " Because I didn't know what to expect, it was confusing for a while. When I reached the end, I really felt like I had been on a journey. I think this book is awesome and brilliantly written. The performance was out of this world!
My book club read this book. I was the only one that listened to it on audible. I think I enjoyed it more than anyone else. The person who read the book really made the characters come to life and I just didn't want the book to end. I learned so much about a topic that I knew little about. I will never forget this book and would highly recommend it!
The writing was smart and clever. The narration was performed in a manner that Branford the words to life.
Excellent introduction to mental health from an adolescent perspective. Challenger Deep would serve as a great read for YA.
"Brilliant imagery and sound"
Shusterman's writing was enthralling, illustrating his scenes with color and emotion so emersive it was a task coming of the world he and his son describe. The main character's, Kaden's, experience was moving and so well put together that it was nearly relatable.
The narrator too! He was INCREDIBLE. So many accents and voices, each one entirely their own and easily/beautifully distingushable from one another.
I'm so glad I listened to this audio book, it was an excellent listening and learning experience all around!!
"Great Story - personality packed saddnes yet Happy"
Hits a little to close to home, but the Theme of the story is amazing, if only others recognize this on a daily basis.
Michael is a great narrator. His ability to grab the audience and take them into the story is beyond words. Shusterman continues to amaze me with such detail and vividness in explaining emotions and scenery. Definitely recommend this book.
"Slow start but great in the middle"
I was so confused for the first part of this novel. And by first part I mean the first third. After it got going and I was able to orient myself (much like the character) it was a intriguing read.
