Michael Palin reads his own account of an epic journey across the Himalaya. The greatest mountain range on earth, it includes the Khyber Pass and the Silk Road, the mighty peaks of Everest and K2, and the gorges of the Yangtze. He passed through a fascinatingly mixed bag of countries: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, and secretive mountain kingdoms like Nepal, as well as one of the most volatile regions in the world, Kashmir.

This book exceeded my expectations, when you have Michael Palin and Travel, you know you are on a winner but I got far mor out of this than I expected. Once again Michael's style and great descriptions make you feel as if you are travelling with him. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I can recommend it to anyone.
As ever, Michael Palin is a great narrator for his own book (as if there was any doubt). The only thing I would caution is to NOT download the Enhanced format of Part two. It's missing about 18 minutes. You jump a whole section in the middle dealing with the entry into China. If you download format 4, you have the whole book.
This is a well written and well read book. Michael Palin is wonderfully descriptive. I can picture the scenes in my head. It looses 1 star because there is a chunk missing at the end of chapter 7 before chapter 8. It stops mid sentence and then jumps a few days ahead in the story.

Best Palin audio-book I have listened to so far, great that it is unabridged too. Palin is just so dam pleasnt to listen to and often very funny indeed. Well worth a listen, makes me want to travel!
Most people have probably seen Michael Palin's travel shows on TV but if you haven't tried one of the accompanying audiobooks yet, you really should. I think they are brilliant. And Himalaya is definitely one of the best. It is narrated by Michael Palin too, which makes it even better.
His descriptions of the people he meets along the way are great and he brilliantly describes the arduous climb when he was feeling ill. It's just fantastic, you can almost imagine being there.
I really like Michael Palin, I don't go out of my way to watch his travel shows but have seen them on occasion and enjoyed them. Sadly this book I didn't enjoy. Michael's narration is good, somehow he gets away with his impressions by the book is lacking some oomph, some detail. For a 120 day trip I can appreciate it'd be difficult to cover every minute detail but there were some things I wanted to know more about and less about.
Michael Palin is a great raconteur who is able to convey a very clear picture of his travels, to the point it is a very acceptable alternative to the DVD.
I have no experience of other similar Audible titles, but I guess many of the accomplished travel writers are capable of producing a similar result.
I wanted a book that I could dip in an out of without having to carry a story in my head.
A worthy read by the initimitable Michael Palin.
Michael Palin is well-known for his talented acting and as a talented comedian as one of the Monty Python gang. Well, he has another talent - as the author of his "travel" series with the BBC! The book is delightfully written, eloquent, and brings to life as though you were there! A talented man and a delightful "read"!
