Patricia L. Lawrence takes a hike through Freiburg, the "Gateway to the Black Forest" with naturalist guide Andre Schaeffer. Schaeffer is knowledgeable and gently enthusiastic, describing the ecology and climate of Freiburg in great detail, providing interesting tidbits, such as how the Douglas firs of the forest originated in the United States, where they are now extinct. He and Lawrence visit the Schlossberg tower to take in the breathtaking view of the Black Forest, Freiburg, and the Vosges mountains. Lawrence describes her trek with great appreciation, and listeners will be tempted to visit this incredible location where history, culture, and nature blend seamlessly together.
