Sailing, Yachts and Yarns is a selection of Tom Cunliffe's funniest, wisest and most thought-provoking writing from the pages of Yachting Monthly. Tom's love of language and sense of humour shine through as he recalls the wealth of sinners and saints he has met on docksides from Southampton to South America, Greenwich to Greenland and Newtown to New York. He has a gift for capturing the magic of sail and finding pearls of practical wisdom in the most unlikely nautical adventures. Sailing, Yachts and Yarns is a lively miscellany of a wit, wisdom and wonder.
It will make you laugh and make you think - and make you want to cast off to enjoy the delights of life afloat.

Listening to this filled me with anticipation of the arrival of spring and the fact that come Easter me and my yacht will return to the sea.
In fact many of the tales talk about my own sailing back yard, but I cant claim to have ever meet the author in the Jolly Sailor but if I did I buy him a beer or two and say thanks for the audio book loved the anecdotes and I am sure we are kindred spirits because I agree with everything in this book. Cheers.
If you're a cruising sailor, you'll appreciate many of the situations that the author describes.
Being the author, Tom Cunliffe reads the stroies in the way that head wrote them for PBO and engages you in how he felt at the time
Although you don't need to , being an anthology of shorter stoies, it is well enough read and entertainingenough that you could easily listen to it in one sitting.
This is a book for people interwsted in sailing. You don't need to be an experienced sailor to 'get' the humour, however and it is well read. It takes a light-hearted look at some of the situations the author has found himself in over many years of sailing yachts all around the world, both porfessionally and for pleasure. he doesn't take himself too seriously and each story will have the you putting yourself on the boat with him.
A light easy going listen. Thoroughly recommended.
One of those books that works great to have on in the background on a long journey. Personally I didn't find anything that wanted to make me listen as the only thing I did but it was a great companion in the car for a few days and I did learn quite a few things.
Expected a humorous well delivered series of yarns and that is exactly what I got well done Tom very easy listening. Now stop reading your own reviews and get on with some more audiobooks.
"A jolly good collection!"
Here here, God save the queen!
A grand collection of Tom's opinions, of which I agree on every one.
"A little irrelevant."
This is a story put on by a rather opinionated english reporter. Some of his information is good, but most of it was disappointing. Things like - you don't need a life-jacket while in the water, while talking about how much difficulty most skippers have coming back for a man-overboard.
"Nice turn of phrase"
Very interesting information delivered with typically dry English humour. Fires up the adventuring spirit. Sounds like his wife is quite the capable adventurer in her own right.
"very enjoyable will listen to again"
very enjoyable and will listen to again and again as it has lots of entertaining tales. Tom is a very down to earth person and I now feel I know him personally.
The stories were interesting and entertaining, but made even better by the author himself doing the narration. Well done Mr Cunliffe!
