Writer, reader, now an avid listener, why hadn't I discovered this before!
This was a great short, I kinda wanted it to be longer, but with all the twists in it and the chaos, I now know it's not a bad size for what it is.
In regards to the production, I have to admit I'm not a fan of the sounds and extra beeps. The story itself was interesting, held my attention and had that romantic, and scary element to it.
I was expecting the ending, but it was well done. :) If you've an hour to spare this is a fab little story.
I was gifted a copy from the author for an honest review.
Storyline: This is the first book I have read by Miss Mae and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a Science Fiction story (I’m a big fan) and this book does not disappoint. I teach computer security as a profession so I thoroughly enjoyed the parts that contained computer viruses, but other parts of the book were just as good. The ending made me think of Inception, not because it’s the same ending, but because you’re left in the dark over what the has happened – this is done particularly well.
Narration: I think the narrator did a great job. He succeeded in keeping me engaged throughout his performance and performed the characters very well.
Overall: I look forward to reading more books by Miss Mae and will enjoy listen to the narrator again too!
P.S. This audiobook was provided by the narrator free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
Miss Mae does it again! I have to admit I was a little surprised that MM wrote a Science Fiction story, since I'm so used to her edge of the seat romantic suspenses - but this was just as good as all her previous books, and as a S.F. reader and writer myself I love the genre, but it has to be very well written for me to really enjoy it, and 'Through A Glass Darkly' did not disappoint. The action takes place on board a medical transport ship. One realises immediately that the relationship between Vexen Rheinhart and her husband is very close, but unfortunately there is a problem preventing Leland from joining her so he sends a holograph of himself instead - what could possibly go wrong? The answer, in fact, is quite a lot! Her friend and colleague, Rernard and herself have to deal with one emergency after the other, the main one being a rogue computer virus - when all computer viruses are supposed to have been eradicated. This is a fast paced story and kept me guessing all the way. There is just enough technological information to keep it real. The ending has a great twist - the reader is left slightly unsure of the actual outcome, and although this doesn't always work for me, in this instance it certainly did, and ensured that I mulled the story over in my mind for a long time after the final page.If you like your Science Fiction full of action and suspense, with more than a touch of mystery and romance, then this is just the story for you. I have to say I enjoyed listening to the audio version, if anything, even more than reading the book. Owen McCuen did a fantastic job of reading and 'getting into character', and really brought the story to life!
I love Science Fiction and this book did not diasappoint
Just enough technical information to keep the story interesting and believable
Great narration, really brought the story to life!

"Only Average, But Not Bad"
I was very torn about my opinion of this short story. It held my attention while I was listening, but I don't think I can honestly say that it was "good' and will have to settle on "average" instead.
The story is about a cargo ship commander who is facing the threat of an alien intruder and a ship that is malfunctioning due to a computer virus. A holographic copy of her husband also joins her when it is apparent that attempting to do so himself would be too dangerous. To make thing worse, pirates appear demanding the surrender of the ship.
I was confused by some of the technology and thought that some of it (including the hologram with the personality and memories of her husband) was a little unrealistic. Also, the cliche' "killer monster in outer space" and the computer virus were a little much for me.
Narration was ok. Nothing special, but was good enough to get 3 stars.
All-in-all, I can only give this book a somewhat neutral review, but it did hold my attention to it's duration.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.
this was a great short story I like spiders by the way. liked everything about this story, the narrator did a excellent job he was very good with the female voices. this book was given free for a honest review and unbiased option from the narrator, publisher and or author via audio book boom
"Awesome sci-fi short!"
Aside from the giant spider in space (I hate spiders), this was a great story. Very creative short and the narrator does a great job with each character.
Miss Mae delivers a well written story on the SciFi front. From the very start this was just an all around fun novella to listen to. Length of it makes it perfect for being stuck in rush hour traffic and keeping occupied. But you'll be more than occupied, you'll hope you have enough time to finish before you get there. Owen McCuen does an excellent job of voice the individual characters and bringing out the details of each through their very distinct voices. Highly recommend this.
"Definitely Not Their Day"
This short story packs a punch. In this future time computer viruses may no longer exist but with a few tweaks viola, never say never. To top it off they also have a spider like alien reeking havoc and that is just the start. It is definitely not your normal run-of-the-mill day for the medical transport ship, Captain Vexen Rheinhard, Remard, and the ship's computer, Della.
Miss Mae gives us a complete space opera with lots of action, intrigue, and a bit of romance. It definitely does not feel like a short story. I swear I was panting part of the way through.
Owen McCuen does wonderful justice to the female and male characters of all varieties in addition to some really cool sound effects. I am definitely a fan.

This sci-fi tale is creatively written by Miss Mae & cleverly narrated by Owen McCuen. This story line will have keep you in suspense as to what has come aboard & how the crew handles it. Enjoyable sci-fi adventure!
"On the Edge of My Seat"
science fiction, exciting, quick read, couldn't-put-down.
This is a difficult question to answer because there were many excellent moments in the story, but if I have to choose just one, I'd say the huge, slimy monster terrorizing the space ship.
Owen McCuen portrayed the characters using just the right nuances with his voice to increase the terror, cuddle the warm and fuzzy scenes, and relate the powerful arguments. Job well done!
Truly quick read to escape the mundane.
"A Fantastic Science Fiction Short!"
I received a complimentary audiobook code from the author in return for an honest review.
This is a fantastic short science fiction horror story. I loved it!
Vexen Reinhart is a fantastic character. I liked her a lot. She is the captain of a medical transport, taking medical supplies to one of the space ports in the sector. When her ships computer becomes infected with a computer virus, Vex finds herself facing several challenges.
I was contacted by the author as I had previously listened to, and enjoyed, a few of her other books in audio format. I accepted her offer with pleasure.
As this is a short story, it didn't take long to listen to; just over an hour to be precise. I absolutely LOVED Owen McCuen's portrayal of the various characters; from the computer, to the creepy reptilian Delphan. Each character had their own personality and accent. I could listen to Owen McCuen reading all day, every day. He's previously read one of Miss Mae's other books, Ahoy Gum Drop!, which I also loved.
As I said before, this is only a short story, but it is full of action and adventure. The storyline is compelling and I found myself engrossed. There are a few twists that had me sitting on the edge of my seat. My only complaint was that it (the story) was too short! However, the ending sent a shiver down my spine. It left me with a feeling of foreboding and had me wondering "What if?". But, that was a scary proposition, so I hope my fears are not true for Vex. It was a perfect read for Halloween. However, this book would be enjoyable all year round if you love science fiction with a hint of horror.
Miss Mae has written a wonderful piece of science fiction. I love her writing style, which is fast paced and exciting, and the flow is wonderful. I am a huge fan of Miss Mae and I will be keeping an eye out for more of her books in the future.
I highly recommend this book to readers who love science fiction, horror, mystery and suspense, or to those who are looking for a quick, but highly entertaining read. - Lynn Worton
The way it was narrated helps you to visualize the scenes.
Vexen because she is cunning in finding her answers and how she stands her ground.
He does a great job making the characters come to life.
The creepy spider, eewww...makes you wonder what else it can do...
Love Miss Mae's books .
