Publisher's Summary

From apocalypse...

An act of terrorism unleashed an unspeakable biological weapon...and hell on earth. But as the masses felled by a hideous virus rose from the dead to prey on the living, a small band of survivors defied death and its ghastly spawn - determined to outrun the world's end, and somehow begin again.

To Armageddon...

But beyond the undead-besieged shores of Europe lies something closer to damnation than salvation. Rescued from certain death at sea, the young Spanish lawyer, the beautiful woman he loves, and his brash, battle-hardened best friend - who have weathered the worst of the unnatural disaster - find themselves delivered from a world of horror into a stronghold of hate. In a United States ravaged by the Zombie plague and overrun by the undead, only Gulfport, Mississippi, offers sanctuary...for a price: Subservience to a fascist dictator and his brutal enforcers. But their reign of terror will soon be challenged. By rebels hungry for vengeance, and invaders bent on conquest.

    "Brilliant Trilogy & Fantastic Narration!"

Initially on starting 1st book I thought this was going to be a post apocalyptic story line similar to books I'd listened to previously - but realised after finishing the first book that it wasn't - it is much more believable than most undead post apocalyptic plots.
Nick Podehl is an exceptionally good narrator - very expressive and his portrayal of different accents is amazing. Will look for other books narrated by Mr Podehl.

"Satisfying end to a great trilogy!"

Writers of zombie fiction face a problem--you've got your band of survivors, but then what? Most authors keep their protagonists shuffling forward, foraging food, picking among the ruins of civilization. Sometimes there's a small community, and the focus shifts to petty power struggles that keep me hoping the apocalypse won't ever arrive. Occasionally this strategy works (Robert Kirkman), but more often, it just gets depressing.

Not so with Manel Loureiro's Apocalypse Z. In this final installment, our Spanish lawyer, now in Mississippi, faces something even more terrifying than a horde of undead: an unhinged Evangelist dictator backed up by a skinhead army. Even worse, another army is arriving from the other side of the world to do battle over the last inhabited town in the United States. It's up to our lawyer, along with Lucia, Pritchenko, and faithful feline Lucullus, to stop it all in time to save what's left of the planet.

There aren't a lot of marauding undead in this novel--Loureiro focuses on humans this time, with exciting and sometimes sad results (with so few humans left, it's pretty disgusting that they'd kill and mistreat each other!) But there's just as much excitement as there was in the last two books, as the trio get in one imaginative scrape after another. It was impossible to guess what was going to happen next as the twists kept on coming.

The ending did not disappoint here: clearly, the author knew when to end the series. Still, I wish there were more on the way--I'm going to miss these characters! I'll also miss Nick Podehl's fantastic reading, which brings all the emotion and excitement you'd expect from such a story, along with well-done accents that never sound cartoonish.

I highly recommend this suspenseful, insightful series for its excitement as well as its exploration of how horrible and wonderful human beings can be. Five stars all the way!

"Very different tone from the first one"
Would you try another book from Manel Loureiro and Pamela Carmell (translator) and/or Nick Podehl?

    Nope.

Has The Wrath of the Just turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Wrath of the Just?

The bad guys were all weird comic book images - not believable and completely overdone. Loved the first book, completely hated this one. It was just awful.

    Any additional comments?

Very sorry I bought it. What a huge disappointment.

"The narrator brings this book together."

The sorry is pretty good, the characters are likeable. But what made me decide to listen to the entire trilogy is the narrator. Some good books are badly narrated and it ruins them.

What disappointed you about The Wrath of the Just?

Ridiculous plot and I enjoyed the first 2 books.. A zombie novel does not need to be PC

What was most disappointing about Manel Loureiro and Pamela Carmell (translator) ’s story?

It made no sense. Rescuers were bad people but the female's mouth put all at needless risk

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narration fine- he had nothing to work with.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Wrath of the Just?

I would say to the author all of the scenes involving the female character's immature behavior in putting all three characters at risk was too much to believe in a zombie ruled, deadly world. I would say stop trying to be so PC in a fantasy-zombie novel and start over.

    Any additional comments?

Sorry to be so hard on the authors. I had listened to the first 2 books and was really looking forward to this one and actually stopped listening as the plot grew dumber by the minute.

Would you listen to The Wrath of the Just again? Why?

Yes, I will listen to all three again as I enjoyed each twist and turn

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed all the characters, although Pritt stands out as does the cat. Boy did that cat go through a lot of pain too.

What about Nick Podehl’s performance did you like?

Very enjoyable, he has a good voice for different characters and although he could have done I think he played the reverend particularly well

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

zombies, pirates, a nun, mad reverends, white supremacists and North Koreans this has it all.

    Any additional comments?

Very enjoyable and I have enjoyed all three books and will very soon listen to all three together for the thrill of the journey

"The Story comes to a great end"

“Wrath of the Just” brings the Apocalypse Z trilogy to a stunning end. The book moves from Europe to America and focuses more on human vs. human combat rather than trying to survive the zombies (although they are in there). This book has a lot of twists and turns which I hasn’t seen coming and puts the group some unique situations, while wrapping up the story nicely. I think this is the best in the series!

The various accents and characters make this Mr. Podehl's best performance yet!
