Summary

Internationally-bestselling, critically-acclaimed author Robin Hobb takes listeners deep into the history behind the Farseer series in this exclusive novella.

One of the darkest legends in the Realm of the Elderlings recounts the tale of the so-called Piebald Prince, a Witted pretender to the throne unseated by the actions of brave nobles so that the Farseer line could continue untainted. Now the truth behind the story is revealed through the account of Felicity, a low-born companion of the Princess Caution at Buckkeep.

With Felicity by her side, Caution grows into a headstrong Queen-in-Waiting. But when Caution gives birth to a bastard son who shares the piebald markings of his father s horse, Felicity is the one who raises him. And as the prince comes to power, political intrigue sparks dangerous whispers about the Wit that will change the kingdom forever…

In her trademark style, Hobb offers a revealing exploration of a family secret still reverberating generations later when assassin FitzChivalry Farseer comes onto the scene. Fans will not want to miss these tantalizing new insights into a much-beloved world and its unforgettable characters.

Critic reviews

“Hobb is one of the great modern fantasy writers…what makes her novels as addictive as morphine is not just their imaginative brilliance but the way her characters are compromised and manipulated by politics.” (The Times)

“Robin Hobb writes achingly well” (SFX)

”Hobb is a remarkable storyteller.” (Guardian)

A great short story

Another excellent story from Robin Hobb. Shorter than the other books, and self contained. I'm not sure if it's set before or after the other books, but it didn't stop me enjoying it.

Great little story of the Farseers.

I revisited "The Wilful Princess" via Audible. It's a must-read if you're a devotee of Hobb, though it's not necessary in order to complete the wonderful "Fitz" books. Beautifully read.

An excellent addition with Robin's usual heart.

A wonderful back story that fits so nicely in to the rest of the series.

Beautifully sad poinient tale

This is not essential listening for the realm of the elderlings but it is so beautifully written and moving it is likely one of my favourite installments. Add to that the narrator truly understood the tone and pulled it all together, a blessing considering the seriously dodgy (and sometime down right infuriating!) narration of other instalments.

fine writing indeed.

Robin Hobb never disappoints!

I would recommend this book whole heartedly. Short and sweet, it answers some key questions from the Farseer and Fool's trilogies.

A bit short

Too short compared to the others or maybe the last one of the series that made me realised it has ended and there are no more … hard realisation to come by after all these amazing books

Wonderful

Excellent narration, fantastic story with the usual twists and turns we can expect from Hobb.
A wonderful piece of history to accompany her other works.
