The impossible has happened. The Lord Ruler is dead has been vanquished. But so too is Kelsier, the man who masterminded the triumph. The awesome task of rebuilding the world has been left to his protege Vin; a one-time street urchin, now the most powerful Mistborn in the land. Worryingly for her Vin has become the focus of a new religion, a development that leaves her intensely uneasy. More worryingly still the mists have become unpredictable since the Lord Ruler died and a strange vaprous entity is stalking Vin. As the siege of Luthadel intensifies the ancient legend of the Well of Ascension offers the only glimmer of hope. But no-one knows where it is or what it can do...

I was really enjoying this story (on my iphone audible app) only to find it wouldn't play beyond part 2 chapter 6. I'm very frustrated especially because my library doesn't have the book and I'm desperate to find out what happens next...
I hope the bug gets fixed really soon.
OK. Firstly, this is not a sequel and thus isn't simply a rehash of the first concept, this is the next installment.
If you listened to the first book and enjoyed it, then you'll enjoy this.
This installment adds depth to characters and adds more detail to the backstory of the world; introducing whole new species and new magic into the world created in the first book, as well as adding insight into the magic already introduced in the first book . This is a worthy listen, although I would imagine that starting on this book would leave the listener baffled as it requires the background and gentle introduction provided in the first book otherwise you will feel cheated.
Overall, a great listen.
Thank you once again Mr Sanderson.
Over 27 hours long!
The Mistborn series is a cruel mistress. If you've spent 24 hours on the first book, you'll be damned if you'll spend 27 hours on the second.
But I did. I had too.
Having spend so long with the characters during the first part of the epic, I had to see what happened next so I we go again with Michael Kramer manning the wheel once again.
The story has the same feel to it as the first but our heroes and villains are in a very different scenario.
The political under-current of the first novel becomes more important during this one and sometimes it can feel as if this is a little heavy going.
However, our hero Vin is following a different path and keeps the story flying along as she battles an array of interesting new characters.
There is a complimentary magic system to the first which adds another level of detail to Sanderson's story.
There are some brilliant turns and surprises and if you have listened to the first one then you must listen to this.
Understandably - don't start with this one - listen to book 1.
I wrote a review of the first book in the series and this is the same - excellent audiobook with very good narrator. Thoroughly enjoyed all three books.
All characters well developed.
Just love being read to and this narration was very easy on the ear. I know some people don't like Michael's American accent but he has a wonderful timbre to his voice that I appreciate and he changes his voice for all the characters so it is easy to identify characters - very well done in my opinion.
No idea for a tag line but would definitely see the movie!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this series of books.
Maybe once i have completed all Sandersons other books.
Nothing it is its own amazing series nothing like it
Too many to have a single favourite but Sazid Breeze and Ham are so cool
Had me screaming like NUFC won the prem at points. had me on the edge of my seat sometimes had to pull over car lol
I was a little concerned about the US accent of the narrator (a stupid prejudice to assumed that fantasy characters have English accents!) but he's a great reader and, once I got used to it, the story galloped along. Characters came to life and I couldn't wait to buy part two.
Well after the first book I couldn't wait to start this one .. It started slow very political but I thought it's called well if accession it'll come ... With only four hours of listening left I came to realise this wasn't going to be a great book .. It preps and promises so much then nothing hours and hours of vin said .. Ham said .. All political weaving and very little exploration expansion .. I did enjoy oseer but saw that coming a mile off .. It must be hard getting the balance of such powerful characters and making them weak .. Which it just didn't quite do.. Just a lot of moments where you wanna scream stop whining and get on with it xx loved the first book hoping the third is better
This is an amazing book. I loved the first book in the series, and I was a bit concerned by some of the reviews I'd read about the second book, but I needn't have worried.
This second book was more 'political' and 'scholarly' than the first book, with less emphasis on allomancy than the first one, but it was just as gripping and exciting, while giving us more insight into the characters and the nature of the landscape of the Final Empire.
Michael Kramer reads the books wonderfully and is totally captivating.
I also love the fact that it's child friendly, and hasn't turned into soft porn like some other sequels I've read recently... While it's not aimed at younger children, you could listen to it with them around without worrying. It's a great book for teens and adults.
Up until a couple of months ago I had never heard of this author.
I took a chance on one of the audiobooks and got completely hooked.
He writes incredibly well and introduces new worlds with revolutionary and intricate schemes of magic that transport the listener completely transported.
His books have the advantage of being very long so with an audible membership you get 25 plus hours of riveting listening for the same price as most books that arw only 10 hours.
I love this guy.
"Brandon Sanderson 5 stars all the way :-)"
I have gone through all of your books and they all should be given 5 stars. It would be awesome if you could release all your books on Audible for us Aussies. By the way...... I can't wait for the next "The Way Of Kings" book.
I would (at least I'd recommend starting the series with the first book). Starts off rather slow and never quite reaches the heights of the first book of the series, but all in all a good continuation of the Mistborn saga. The final chapters of Well of Ascension point to an even more compelling storyline to come in the last book, but it stands well on its own too.
OreSeur - The growth of the relationship between Vin and OreSeur is quite interesting and provides much of the early to middle part of the book's interest.
The previous novel in the series; both of them are very good performances.
Yes. Unable to do so for the initial half (a little too slow), but the last half I read in one sitting.
"Good surprises ahead english/português"
I was not so fond of Kelsior to feel much apprehension for his absence in the second book of the series. Even thought the series could make space to evolve other interesting characters such as Ham or Breeze, but did not think for a second that prime focos would be given to Ellend.
I didn't even pay much attention to his character in the previous book, and when I realized he was one of the main points of view of this book, I found the prospect unpleasant.
But again the author surprised me. In Luthadel siege scenario, in which none of the plans sustained for more than a few pages, the characters surprise us with dense dialogues and scenes of physical and social violence, which although causing some angst, were always exciting.
Mas novamente o autor me surpreendeu. No cenário de Luthadel citiada em que nenhum dos planos consegue se manter por mais do que algumas páginas, os personagens nos surpreendem com diálogos densos e cenas de violência física e social, que apesar de causarem certa revolta, são sempre instigantes.
"Improves on the first but shares its flaws"
The lore and twists.
The first book presented an interesting world and was a lot of fun, but for me, lacked somewhat in writing, pacing and story. The story has been addressed, this time giving a story that actually progresses, rather than developing a single scenario. If you liked the first book, this is a must purchase as it outperforms the first one on many occasions. Gone are the introductions of terms and powers chapters long before they are explained, and the hours and hours of nothing happening are reduced to smaller moments, but like the first book.
Unfortunately, I found the writing to still be lacking. This is more noticable in audiobooks obviously, but the writer repeats a lot of the same words. Many dialogues result in every lined ending with 'he said' or 'she said'. Be prepared for a lot of lip chewing, head cocking, eyeing another character, or the writer's favorite, flushing, as at least 2 characters flush every chapter.
The writing aside, it's a solid book with a great ending and some unpredictable plot twists. It got me really excited for the third book.
Michael Kramer's performance is fine throughout, although I still wish he'd get a bit more excited during some of the fight scenes.
Although the author attempts to introduce first time readers to the universe, I would not recommend this book if you haven't read the first, you'll miss way too much.
audio file is corrupt on the second file from chapter 6 on...re downloaded and samething
"Captivating from book 1"
My audio friend say that I find all the books Brilliant but I really enjoy this book I am already at the end of the 2nd book and I still find It captivating can't wait.

When she finally popped the question.
Yes when they all decided to stay together even when their leader and friend died
I love every moment of listening
"Every action has a reaction"
I really like how because they defeat the lord ruler troubles no one knew about is coming out to the world. the darkness is returning, and the threat of war from three fronts, a new mistborn, new records of before the Ascension, new monsters, and things the writer of the journal from the last book are happening again. plus hints to be solved in the next book
"A little slow to the point"
Another excellent book. If only he'd cut it down a bit. There was drag in this story that I didn't feel in the first book.
Hopefully next book will be better edited and more on par with the first.
Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Vin frowned Elland frowned Vin frowned Vin shrugged she frowned? Vin nodded
