Summary

The impossible has happened. The Lord Ruler is dead. But so too is Kelsier, the man who masterminded the triumph. The awesome task of rebuilding the world has been left to his protege Vin - a onetime street urchin, now the most powerful Mistborn in the land. Worryingly for her, Vin has become the focus of a new religion, a development that leaves her intensely uneasy. More worryingly still, the mists have become unpredictable since the Lord Ruler died, and a strange vaprous entity is stalking Vin. As the siege of Luthadel intensifies, the ancient legend of the Well of Ascension offers the only glimmer of hope. But no-one knows where it is or what it can do....

Love the series

The narration is clear and steady which makes it a really easy listen. I preferred this book to the first. you really get to know the characters and there is a bit more drama and heart break.

Couldn't put it down

Once again the writing of Brandon Sanderson creates such a beautiful, intricate and fleshed out world, and the narration of Michael Kramer really, REALLY brings it all to life. I can't believe I haven't read (or listened!) to this series sooner but I will not sleep until I've finished the last one as now I'm completely hooked!

Sanderson at it again

Got to love Brandon Sanderson, I can never all his work trope-y.
He leaves so many breadcrumbs! I'm on my second listen through and there are details that I missed the first time because I didn't know what was going to happen

👍🏼

Brilliant. Though got a bit boring all the fighting toward the end. But didn’t spoilt. Loved it.

Incredible continuation.

Much like the first book, this is a gripping story with well developed characters and a fascinating world. The first time I listened to it, it felt like a bit of a slower burn than the first, and yet I couldn't stop listening for a moment.

Another great reading by Michael Kramer. I love the emotion he carries and the clear distinction between characters. 10/10

Massively heightens the first book

I enjoyed this one quite a lot more than I thought I would.

The first book was good fun, if a little simplistic and sometimes cheesy, but with an interesting and entirely different world as well as a good magic system, it held my interest. The characters were pretty good, though only one really stood out, but it was the twist at the end that brought it all together, but I still wasn’t overly impressed.

Then on to the next in the series, this one, and boy ow boy, it definitely makes the last a much better book. The story and scope increases here, though again feeling a little clunky at times. We all know Sanderson isn’t praised for his prose but I would appreciate a bit of a better effort where that is concerned.

The world grows more interesting and against thief is a great twist at the end, however one thing I would say is that in both Sanderson books in this series so far, it’s felt like, not a lot actually happens from start to end. I’ve struggle with this with some other books, where events are drawn out. Usually when that’s the case I expect exceptional characters, like in the first law trilogy, though in those books I’d argue far more happens, or I’d want really strong prose and action.

I am enjoying this, there’s no denying that, but I do think there are a fair few weaknesses, however I think the world it’s self is just so unique, that it really helps eliminate or nullify the weaker aspects of the book.

Outstanding!

I much preferred this to book 1; a much more coherent storyline and, again, brilliant narration. An exciting and engaging listen with great twists and turns!
