Summary

An experiment that began 2.8 billion years ago is about to end....

Seb Varden is starting to get used to life as a World Walker. With a body full of alien nanotechnology, the ability to travel anywhere instantly and - most surprising of all - a steady relationship with Meera Patel, things are finally looking up.

Until Seb has his first blackout, starts meeting aliens and discovers a plan that threatens the entire human race. And, of course, Mason, the most dangerous Manna user, picks this particular moment to come after him and Meera.

Scariest of all, Seb is learning his transformation into a World Walker is far from complete....

Monkeys, aliens, technology, parallel universes, music, psychopaths, A.I., a magic tech spider, The Unmaking Engine has it all, including the explanation of how all life on Earth began. Did I mention monkeys?

Loved it

If it were a book I'd never put it down. A good story filled with drama and humour.

Brilliant

Again a really brilliant book this second book in the series kept me thoroughly entertained. I know some people dislike the “said Seb” that is a constant presence, personally it makes me laugh as does the play with the name “Mee”. Some of the word play is very subtle sometimes I think it’s just me imagining it. Great story and very good narration. The author brings references to some belief systems and characters that a quite similar to the real world and I like the way this is done and not overplayed. Super hero, villains and colourfully described characters and events each of which is like a picture. It is at times like a marvel comic crossed with Philip Marlow wrapped in fantasy and science fiction. Anyway I liked it. I’m now heading to book three.

Can't think of a title

Whilst the narrator does a good job, it does sound quite weird when he does 'mee's' voice, which I found slightly off putting.
The story, I'm pleased to say, has not disappointed and I look forward to the next book. There are so many places this story could be taken, both for the future and historically within the story. There is background that we have yet to discover and I'm very interested to see how the author Sainsbury imagines it all.

A great second book in my opinion, and I look forward to (at the moment) books 3 and 4.

Good enough that I am buying book 3

Like the narration, his voices are fun. Like the theme of the book and in both books there has been some really lumpy lines that made me smile. wish I could remember the pachyderm line from the first book.

Getting better

Practice makes perfect they say. Or it may just be me settling into the characters and flow of the books. I worried about it becoming a standard trope, but there are new ideas and this was nicely escalated to the next level. Book 3 here I come.

good story engaging characters dodgy accents

the story is a cleche, but is enjoyably done, the twists are obvious from a mile away but I'd done well enough that it's perfectly fine.... the accents are so dodgy at times that you can't help but laugh, every time their was a British accent I started to chuckle.

Solid continuation of the story

Really glad the author found a way to continue the story. Narrator was again superb and gave real depth to the performance.

Despite being called The World Walker, the actual cast of characters has shrunk. I would have liked to see more examples of manna users shown.

The story is more of a 3.5 for me. Quite a few coincidences to service the story, but nothing that made me roll my eyes too much.

I'll read the third book to see how things are resolved, but not as a must-read.
