Publisher's Summary

The hotly anticipated third audiobook in the best-selling Bone Season series - a groundbreaking dystopian fantasy of extraordinary imagination.

Following a bloody battle against foes on every side, Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen, ruling over London's criminal population.

But having turned her back on Jaxon Hall, and with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilising the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging.

Little does Paige know that her reign may be cut short by the introduction of Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for the clairvoyant community and the world as they know it.

"great third part, action packed :)"

loved this book. I was slightly wary after reading a negative review of the audiobook but it is just as good as the previous two! I have listened to all three over a period of a week and now I have to wait for the next installment!

    "Narrator changed?"

I've now listened to all 3 books in the bone season series. This book sounds like it's being read by a different narrator- most annoying! It's completely ruined my enjoyment of the story.

    "I love this series"

I am amazed by the inventiveness of the author. Although the genre is not my normal choice, I enjoy the twists and turns of the story line plus the use of place including historic London. Add in language, dialect and the projection of current culture into the near future there is interest alongside the narrative. Keep them coming.

    "A really good solid read."

A really good read. Took a little while to get back into the story as I read the earlier books in the series a while ago - but glad I persevere. Strong characters; original story line; some humour and unexpected twists. Great names! A little bit of romance but this doesn't dominate the story line or reduce it to mush. Looking forward to more...

    "Disappointing"

Dragged and was disappointing compared to the other books. Story could have been more exciting and could have elaborated on the move story more. Didn't really take me anywhere emotionally.

"Not as good as previous books"
What did you like best about The Song Rising? What did you like least?

Pacey with a couple of twists but nowhere near as compelling as the Bone Season. Feels less polished, a bridging book between Paige's life in Seven dials and the future where she is in a French resistance movement. A bit 'been there seen that', like a boring WW2 movie on Sunday afternoon. Character less deep and therefore I cared less about them.

    "Good conclusion, but not great"

As with many trilogies these days, the first book is great, lures you in, the second isn't as good, but still worth it and then the third and final part of the story is losing the tempo and drama gradually towards a realistic, but foreseeable ending.
Well read, story is alright, but nothing to shout about. Bit disappointed...

Was as good as the previous book, full of twists, turns and action. Loved the performance by the narrator and well done to Samantha Shannon for creating such a great read.

    "Back to the ether"

The narrative moves into more political action and less in the dreamscape - but the wonderfully characters and evocative descriptions of time and place make this as compelling as the earlier pieces. Top class narration is the cherry on this marvellous cake.

    Any additional comments?

I loved Alana Kerr Collin's voice and reading style for the first two books, but this one has her sounding like Captain Kirk or an 8th grader reading Beowulf. I can't get past chapter 2. This book will be returned and guess I'll have to buy a hard copy. So disappointed as I had really looked forward to another great story to have on Audible.

    "What happened!?"

I absolutely love this series BUT what happened to the narrator?? Kerr's narration is way different than the last few books-- it made it very difficult to get through the book. Hopefully they fix this for the next books.

    "What the heck happened?"

The producers of this audiobook must have changed from the last two books, because Kerr's delivery went from nuanced to deadpan. I loved the previous two books in the series, but I'm asking for a refund on this one and buying a physical copy. Super disappointed.

    "Wow—What happened to the narration?!"

Really enjoyed this narrator for the first two books—she was excellent—but her reading in this one is completely different. It's honestly, quite difficult to listen to and I find myself either cringing or not paying attention. There is no subtlety. All the talent showed in the first two books is now just flat. What happened? I'll likely be unable to finish listening to this and return it. Too bad. I guess I'll have to get a physical edition if I ever want to finish it.

    "What happened to the narrator?!?!"

The narration in the first books is wonderful - I enjoyed it so much. What a disappointment when I started listening to this one - the narration style has completely changed. It's almost unlistenable. Seriously, I am missing the original Paige voice :( the infection, tone, and cadence are totally off and strange in this book.
I wish they would re record!!!!!

"Why the change in narration style???"

I was on the edge of my seat excited for the third book narrated by Alana Kerr. I have fallen in LOVE with her voice as The Voice for Paige Mahoney and when the narration style switched completely it made me feel as though I paid for false advertisement. I assume that SOMEONE out there instructed Alana to change how this book was narrated but it is completely unsatisfactory in the build up that I have been waiting for.

Narration makes this unlistenable. Tried my best to ignore stilted and forced narration but sadly, I will be finishing last half of book as a Kindle ebook.

    "Narrator sounds odd"

I liked this narrator in previous books in this series but she sounds terrible here. Like someone told a depressed person to pretend to be happy and up. It just comes off in deadpan voice. I like the tone of her previous books. I'll have to read it for myself now.

    "Disappointed"

Shannon I think missed many opportunities to create and more diverse plot for the 3rd book. It seems like a repeat of run away, rebel, survive, no real twists and drawn out for what was really happening, could have been much longer. And Warden and Paige's relationship is an infuriating tease. Just disappointed when you wait two years for a book to come out...

I'm not sure why people are complaining about the narration of this volume of the series. I couldn't stop listening!
