They were all born with a secret buried deep within. The journey they take, all guided by the same uncanny dream, is the key that will unlock their secrets. Six young heroes along with a seventh, leave the only homes they have ever known, and embark upon a life-altering quest to save their world and bring the universe back together again.
An adventure 500 years in the making, the saga to find and restore the Crystals of Ialana unites Jarah, Adain, Blaidd, Djana, Kex, Tristan, and Tegan. These young men and women ranging in age from 15 to 21 - connected through history and bonded by time - must find a way to stop the deadly encroachment of Amrafalus, the Dragon King and his army of scorpion-like combatants. Intent on creating a world of mutant slaves, Amrafalus will stop at nothing to destroy the only ones who can block him.
Their harrowing ordeal takes them through a maze of mountain caves where they face hideous creatures, perhaps none so dangerous however as one of their very own. A potential traitor in their midst. Will the six be able to survive their mission?
Guided by Irusan, the transcendental shape-shifter, the six young heroes ultimately learn to rely upon one another. They battle their way to the lost crystal, but will they find it in time? Or, will their enemy succeed in his mission to destroy humankind as they know it?

"Worth your time"
I really enjoyed this book. Creative, well written, interesting and very entertaining. While the story is YA it has enough action and adventure to appeal to anyone who likes this type of story.
I the synopsis tells enough about the story that I don't want to give anything else away. Definitely worth your time if you like Epic Fantasy Quest stories.
Is there anything that Jeff Hays narrates that is not amazing? He has the ability to pull you into the story and keep you listening for hours on end. Character voices are fantastic. Clearly spoken, great pacing. He knows how to really bring a story and characters to life. Definitely one of the best narrators out there.

"The Six and the Crystals of Ialana"
Quite the epic story. Everytime 6 friends failed what they set out to do and were murdered they would come back hundreds of years later to try again, after they remember who they used to be and what they were supposed to do. The story will take you to another time and place, another land with magic crystals and mutated humans. Highly recommend the book!!
Jeff Hays is amazing with his wide variety of voices and emotions. He brings new life into written word.

"Fantasy and YA mixed together"
I deviated from my normal genres and gave The Six and the Crystals of Ialana a shot, mainly because I'm familiar with Jeff Hayes. I have listened to a couple other titles narrated by him, and I was very impressed and entertained by both. Jeff Hayes performance is still top notch in this book, but I found the acted accents to be very distracting as that's not what I'm accustomed to with Jeff Hayes. That is solely my opinion, though, I still give the narration 5 stars because it is well done.
As for the book itself, I don't normally read/listen to fantasy books, so the odd names and varying characters are somewhat difficult for me to follow. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the banter and interactions between all the young to be heroes. I especially appreciated that the first few chapters showcase all the characters in their personal home lives, and then seeing them grow from there as their journey unfolds.
I also chose this title because of the YA feel to it. All of the characters have distinct personalities, and surely there will be at least one person that you will be instantly drawn to. For me, it's Kex and Blaidd!

"Perfect Headway Into Series!"
I would rank The Six and the Crystals of Ialana toward the top of the audiobooks I've listened to so far.
I enjoyed the constant action and story development the best.
I absolutely loved Jeff Hays' performance; it was my first exposure to him as a narrator.
I found myself continually intrigued by this book, but I did not have any extreme emotions. I did not laugh or cry.
"Fun YA Fantasy!"
This is the type of story that keeps your mind moving, in a creative forward motion! The narration was on point and the storyline was engaging. This is a perfect book for young adults who enjoy fantasy, or who like to imagine themselves as a character in the book. I really like the group dynamic and hearing how these six young heroes interact and handle certain situations. I also feel like this book is on the shorter side, which is great for younger folks who get bored easily. The Audiobook is perfect for travel, especially when we were traveling during the holidays! Will be recommending to friends with kids in this age group!
"A solid piece of fantasy fiction!"
"The Six and the Crystals of Ialana", written by Kaitlynn Brooke, is a brief, but solid fantasy fiction page-turner. Taking place in the fantasy land of Ialana, we follow along with the group of six main characters as they find and restore the lost crystals. The ensemble cast is very multi-faceted and each contains unique skills/personalities that we witness as the team works towards recovering all the hidden crystals. All the dialogue has a great flow and reminds me of Rush lyrics! The plot, while semi-familiar, sets itself apart with great twists throughout that most came extremely unexpectedly. Many times I found myself empathizing with each of these characters. I enjoyed every bit of this book and can confidently say that I'm anxiously awaiting for the next book in this series. My only big complaint is how relatively short this book is. At only 250ish pages, this story wrapped up way faster than I wanted it to. With this said, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a well-oiled piece of fantasy fiction. This book is a true fantasy hidden-gem (pun intended!) and a great read for fantasy fans!
"The Six and the Crystals of Ialana"
I really wanted to like this book and kept pushing forward in hopes that it would grow on me, it just never did. The concept was interesting, but it just did not capture my attention. I got a little over halfway through before I gave up on it. There was very little character development or detail along the way. Typically I can picture the characters and the scene of what it happening in my head as I move through the story, but there was just not enough detail in the writing for me to do that and I just could not get interested in it. This is not a series I’ll be reading.
"Can't wait for the next book :)"
This story is an imaginative, fantastical tale. It's full of interesting characters including unique creatures and monsters. Unexpectedly, I found it a bit relevant to real life with our advances in genetic technology. The author writes about humans experimenting with crossing human genes with animals. The long term results of this experimenting shape the story in many important ways. You glimpse the possibilities of this technology in a fantasy setting.
The Narrator is very talented. He brought many different characters to life, making the story easier to follow. This was especially helpful since its an audio book. I enjoyed this book and await the next.
"Fun Fantasy Adventure"
If there is a version of this book that you are going to buy then it needs to be the audiobook; the accents used are definitely what outs this audiobook a step ahead of its print copy. Jeff Hays is amazing at distinguishing the different characters, and he really gives each one a different personality.
One thing that I didn’t particular enjoy was just how many characters, particularly protagonists, there were; it can be a bit hard to keep track of them. Also a bit difficult to really establish a connection with a character because of how many there are and how they isn’t more of an exploration of the characters. I would have liked to get to know them more as it would have added to the story and drawn me in further, making me invest more of myself into this compelling story.
In my opinion it also can be a bit slow at times; on occasion I found myself shouting, “Get on with it!” to my iPad. There is a good deal of detail, and while most of the time it is definitely a plus that the author goes into such specifics it is sometimes a big long-winded. But the amount of action definitely makes up for it. I especially liked how each of The Six meet each other and how the team builds itself up in order to take on quests that needed resolution that in a past life had not been achieved.
Not generally the type of book I’d read, but I found it quite enjoyable.
"Mystics Betrayal Love and amazing creatures!"
THIS book right here was fantastic! I can’t wait to read the next book, the ending especially left me wanting more. The relationships building with the healers and the skills they acquired fully rounded out the individuals in the book. Love is building bonds forming, I love it! The deception you could see coming all along and you hoped for it to be different but it happens anyways is unnerving and keeps you glued! It was a little bit difficult to keep up at one point with the characters having their old names and all the different dimensions and castes but once I got it all sorted it made me want to read more. Great book!
