Publisher's Summary

For more than a year, Royce Melborn has tried to forget Gwen DeLancy, the woman who saved him and his partner Hadrian Blackwater. Unable to stay away any longer, they return to Medford to a very different reception - she refuses to see them.

Once more she is shielding them, this time from the powerful noble who abused her. But she doesn't know the rules Royce would break to see her safe.

Story was fine when Royce and Hadrian were involved but dragged when they were not - the other main characters did not get my interest

    "I just cannot stop"

Okay so I'm supposed to listen to my audio books as I'm driving to and from work, to pass time stuck in traffic, but I find myself sitting in my car at my offices car park, stealing 5 minutes extra and the same again when I get home! incredible characters, wonderfully engaging. Get it now !

"A good story but I miss some new story lines"

The story is good, but it is frustrating that it covers events already described in the original series. It means that you all the time know the gist of what is going to happen, thus taking away surprises and making me keep thinking about when the different events will occur instead of focusing on the moment and the story.

    "Fantastic .... Pity's so short(!)"
Where does The Rose and the Thorn rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Considering Tim's narration this definitely comes out top, even though as a book it might 'only' rank amongst my favourite dozen or so...

What did you like best about this story?

Everything is so alive. And while the story itself is good, the imagery of each character and their interplay make Michael one of my favourite authors; his style is just superb....almost to be outdone by Tim's mesmerizing gift as narrator.
    I'll probably have the Riyra & their contemporaries as my dream-fellows for a vfery long time {years probably, considering that the first three [or 6] books did that to me :-) }

Which character – as performed by Tim Gerard Reynolds – was your favourite?

Each character is so vivid, their voices painting pictures in my mind, I couldn't pick just ONE; so, The King, Marvin, Rose, Gwen, Tom Feather, Hadrian, etc are all favourites ;-)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    I pretty much did... ;-)

    Any additional comments?

    A great ending.
Endings are amongst the ratest things even great authors gain mastery over. This 'final' installment [or so one might believe following the foreword of The Crown Tower] has the finest ending I've yet read/heard.
