Summary
In The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss brings together elements from all the great fantasy writers, from George R. R. Martin to Robert Jordan, to create a thrilling and intricately spun story that will leave you breathless.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the university at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.
So begins the tale of Kvothe - currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeeper - from his childhood in a troupe of travelling players, through his years spent as a near feral orphan in a crime riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic.
In these pages you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin.
The Name of the Wind is fantasy at its very best.

Fantastic performance, absorbing story
Absolutely loved listening to this story. All of the characters were identifiable by their voices which is so unusual when one person is narrating. A true epic story of one man’s life. Looking forward to the second book next.

Captivating story with outstanding narration
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great blend of fantasy, adventure and horror. The voices given to each character are incredible, an amazing narration. If you enjoy it then I'd recommend the Red Rising series. I find both share similarities.

a fantasy masterpiece.
one of the best fantasy books I've read. not as much battle and swords and sorcery as I expected. but great pacing and some amazing writing. the world building is great and the way the story flicks back and forth from the innkeepers present day and his story of growing up is wonderfully done.
another thing to mention is Rupert Degas is simply the best narrator I've had the pleasure of listening to. he's been excellent in every book I've heard him, but this showcases his skill in subtle ways I have not noticed before. when you are in a room with jine people all soeakingb be after the other and you can easily tell who is whom, that's a great narrator!
