Publisher's Summary

"Adventure is the lure of fools, and excitement glamour to the gullible. The siren song of the world is as music to the wanderer's feet, but that dance leads only to the soul-less grave."

So Jekaran's uncle has warned him. But that doesn't stop him from leaping at the exhilarating chance to single-handedly rescue a beautiful woman from a gang of lecherous thieves.

But the bored farm boy quickly finds that he is no match for the group of angry street thugs, and only escapes death by bonding a magical sword that grants him the strength and skill of a master swordsman. Unfortunately, a peasant wielding such magic is forbidden and punishable by death.

Thus Jekaran finds himself a fugitive with his fate tied to that of the exotic and mysterious, Kairah, a fey woman who must deliver a dire warning to the king that, if heeded, could prevent the very extinction of humanity.

"*FULL DISCLOSURE* I am the author."
    Any additional comments?

I am the author of this book, and I actually enjoyed Jon's performance (his name is spelled Jon Grundvig, btw). I thought he do a good job bringing my characters to life. He is a professional model and actor, but this was his first time narrating an audio book. I'd love to hear what we could change to improve the performance. Please let me know here in the comments, or by emailing me: jason@authorjasonking.com

And thanks for listening, and giving your feedback. It's what we authors thrive on.

    "Genuinely the WORST Narrator"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

From the first word this narrator spoke I knew it was going to be impossible to listen to. It is horrific. The story sounded awesome, but was completely ruined by this horrible narrator.

    Story
    "Good story, horrible narration"

The story is interesting even though I'm not usually a fan of multiple perspectives, especially when it switches between people in the middle of a fight and between people in the same group with high frequency.

The narration is beyond horrible. If Grundtvig has been paid for doing narration before then it's a miracle. Every voice is grading and makes the characters seem incredibly annoying. Just the first part of the story when you get the prospective from one of the bad guys the way he reads it is absolutely terrible.
On top of everything, the quality of the audio recording changes several times.

I can't recommend this to everyone because of the dreadful narration. Buy the eBook instead because I do think the story is pretty good.

    "**Warning** Bad Narrator Ahead"
How did the narrator detract from the book?

He has a weird lisp. I wonder how the author, editor or the company that produced this audio book could have green lighted this narrator.

    Any additional comments?

His narration was so bad that I could not concentrate on the story

    "Fantastic story! Captivating and enlisting!"

A true fantasy, the lure of fools tells a classic story in fantastical new ways.

A character set enjoyable to follow and a protagonist whom, while constantly having trouble staying on his feet, is captivating and fun.

    Story
    "My new favorite Fantasy author!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Lure of Fools to be better than the print version?

They are comparable. The audiobook reader brings a new feel to it, but it's great both ways.

What other book might you compare The Lure of Fools to and why?

It reminded me of The Book of Three (Book 1 in The Prydain Chronicles) by Lloyd Alexander.

Which character – as performed by John Grundtvig – was your favorite?

The character most improved by John Grundtvig's voice was Ezra.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I never have time to, though.

    Any additional comments?

Although the narrator isn't typical, I found I grew to like the voice as a kind of character all its own. I read the book first, so when I heard the audiobook, it gave a new feel to a story I already loved.

    Story
    "A Fantasy Adventure"
What made the experience of listening to The Lure of Fools the most enjoyable?

There is a lot going on in this story that fantasy readers will enjoy, from semi-sentient magical objects, to layered conflicts between the main group of characters and many other individuals, to action-pact chases and fight scenes. The internal bonds, communications, and compulsions that the characters experience when they interact with the magic in various talises is intriguing, and the fantastical details of King’s world are entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lure of Fools?

I loved the crystal golem chase scenes…you’ll have to listen for yourself to see why!

Great characters make it easy to get into the story. Seamless narrative draws you into the world of talises and magical creatures without long explanations letting the focus stay on the adventure! Can't wait to start the next one!
