Publisher's Summary

Author's Note: The following story takes place in the same world as my novel Blood Song, the first volume in the Raven's Shadow trilogy. I wrote it because I wanted to more fully explore characters who appear in Blood Song and the sequels Tower Lord and Queen of Fire. Readers familiar with my work are sure to recognize a certain pale-eyed, raspy-voiced Sword Master of the Sixth Order, and those curious as to the origins of the Tower Lord of the Southern Shore will find answers here. The tale takes place at the midpoint of the timeline described in Blood Song, a time when King Janus, with typical ruthlessness, is in the process of further consolidating his grip on the Unified Realm.

    "Everything but the price"

loved story, needs price cut in half snd that would still be on the high side even if a hardbacked novella paying royalties for song lyrics in every chapter!

    "Good short story"

It takes a few minutes to get up to speed but once you do it is a good short story. The main character is well developed while filling in some gaps found in the Blood Song through a secondary character and corresponding events.

    "Phenomenal narration"

Steven Brand's narration once again makes him my favorite narrator! Simply put, he has the perfect voice for this genre of literature.

    "Not worth the cost."

I love the series but this is not worth a credit. Too expensive doesn't follow

"Very good for as short as it s"

Not worth the $9 price tag, but still a great short story. The narrative that has been created, first with "The Blood Song" and then with this book is very well executed once you get used to the readers gravelly voice.

Quick listen that is well written. Ties in neatly with the trilogy. I would recommend it.

    "Fantastic Adventure, Mispronunciations!"

My singular complaint is mispronunciation of some of the most mispronounced words in the English language, in fact these come into the top 10. The one most heard is 'Calvary' vs. 'Cavalry', the former refers to where Jesus was crucified. The word used in this book should be Cavalry, where soldiers on horseback gallop into battle. Not seeing the print copy I don't know to blame the editors or the production crew on the audio edition. Either way, it is highly annoying and inexcusable.
