Summary
The Hobbit is the unforgettable story of Bilbo Baggins and acts as a prequel to the mythical Lord of the Rings fantasy series. Showcasing J.R.R. Tolkien's imaginative prowess, this a beautiful, otherworldly tale that cements the author's status as one of the premier storytellers of the twentieth century.
The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of 13 dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an unexpected journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon....
The prelude to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies since its publication in 1937, establishing itself as one of the most beloved and influential books of the 20th century.

Monotone and tedious
The Hobbit itself is a wonderful book with a gripping story. Enjoyed by myself over and over, however this audio rendition is just awful. The narrator is quite literally the worst I have heard in a long time. He doesn’t make it exciting or engaging, I just find my mind wondering after a few minuets. I have invested in the newest edition narrated by Andy Serkis, and hoping for a more enjoyable experience.

top tier
honestly if you think this is any less than the utter pique of quality, you probably don't like fantasy adventure and that's okay

absolutely amazing
Great book, amazing story and of course read by a great narrator. I dare to say that it made me love the LOTR universe even more. P.S. a great way to pass your time in quarantine time.

Spellbinding
I couldn’t get into this as a child but Rob Inglis’ incredible performance brought it alive. Brilliantly scary - the trolls, Gollum, the spiders! Even the songs are lovely! Tolkien really was a genius

Poor voices
I love the Hobbit, but the voices the narrator has chosen for Gandalf and the dwarves are terrible. I couldn't listen to it past the meeting in Bag End. It is like Mr Tumble is doing the voices!

Good book, poor voice acting.
Rob inglis needs to learn subtley in his voice acting. Every characters voice is made near-comical. Very distracting from the off.

Good book with it's problems.
The book itself is good, but the audio quality at some points is a bit poor.

Loved the story but not the narrator
I've read this book several times and love it. My 11 year old son and I get to drive together quite a bit so I am always on the look out for books that we'll both enjoy and is suitable for his age.
He loves the Hobbit and LOTR (from the movies though) but hadn't attempted the books yet so I thought we'd use the audiobook to see how he got on with Tolkien's writing.
The narrator let us down IMO as he came across as quite flat with the voices of the support characters too contrived. I shall be swapping this for the BBC dramatization instead: Hopefully the BBC's use of a cast of narrators will make them more believable.

Not good.
Bored by the voiceover. Loved the book, loved the film, have given up by the end of chapter one by the monotone recital.
