Little Mia Cooper's ability to see the dead made her an outcast in her hometown. Several years later, she has finally managed to blend in, but her hard-won peace is threatened by the arrival of a bumbling team of paranormal investigators. Mia is drawn in reluctantly as an advisor on what, at first, seems to be a fairly straightforward case, only to discover that the Hollow has much more in store for her. An ancient evil is rising in Cold Creek Hollow. What begins as a ghost hunt will become a fight for survival.

I wish this book had been a little more spooky but it wasn't, that don't mean to say that it was a bad story it wasn't just a mild little ghost/love story.
"completely captivating and longing for more!"
I LOVE them equally. They both have so much to offer. Reading in print, you get so in to the story and characters and absorbed into your imaginings. You transport into the world of PEEPS.....you're there....you live it right along with the characters. In Audio....you can lay back....and absorb the different voices, styles, etc and become involved in a whole other way. The characters come to life with an extra "umph" when you can hear them. BOTH versions offer so much.
I love the style in which Alexie Aaron writes. She has a totally unique style all her own. Alexie can capture you instantly and keep you captivated until the very end. She leaves you longing for more. I have favorites that I read and re-read and she is my favorite. I guess to sum it up, I love the characters....they are so alive, so real. I also love the wide range of emotions that Alexies story raises within me. I laughed, I cried, my face ached from hours of smiling, it quenched my hunger of ghosts and fear. I am a die hard paranormal junkie. Alexie does her homework and in doing so, makes her stories believable!
I have never had the pleasure however, I thought she was simply amazing. Her wide range of voices and tones....her added drama, excitement, fear, and truth she integrated into the telling of this story, added life...reality, and a hope that she reads for the entire Haunted series.
Its hard to choose just one moment, the were so MANY ahhhh and a-ha! Moments. So many yikes! and oh crud! Moments...I think my favorite moments in this particular book are the interactions between Mia and Murphy. They know each other in a way others can't know each other.
Alexie Aaron is a fantastic writer. I own this entire series and wait longingly for each new addition. Every book brings something new and exciting. There is never the worry of redundancies, she wont allow it to become stale. Amazingly, she cranks these books out in record speed as not to keep her fans waiting. These are just a couple things about this Author that make her amazing and my favorite. If you are considering reading / listening to this book and this series, you wont be disappointed.
WARNING: This series is highly addictive!
"A supernatural haunting guarenteed to thrill!"
OMG, This book ranks up there with the best! I love paranormal reads. This book is filled with thrills, terror, excitement, even love.
I really don't have a book to compare this to. This is my 1st read of hauntings.
Mia is my favorite character, but Murphy follow by a close second. The author did a great job writing this story & the narrator was awesome!
Murphy would have to be my most memorable. When all was coming to an end or seemed like it, Murphy always had a way of showing up at the right times! Murphy saves the day!!!
I feel the author is super gifted to write such a thrilling tale. At times it had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed this story. The narrator did a bang up job in telling the story too!
"Excellent recording and story line......."
This listening experience was memorable as the reader made the story come alive and the story line moved along at a very nice pace.
I enjoyed the interaction of Mia Cooper with the PEEPs gang and my best memory of the story is when the group gets together to burn out the old church. It didn't start out as a burning but moved quite logically from a seize the bones to burn the bones. It was great and exciting.
Mia Cooper is my totally favorite character of the entire book.
Yes, I actually sat in my car after arriving at my location for a few minutes more, just a few minutes more.
I loved this series and Alexie Aaron as an author in print and I really enjoyed this book in audible format. I am looking forward to getting the entire series in audible format as they get released. Please make that soon.
"Creepy, yet fun story!"
Entertaining with a great twist. Enjoyable to listen to.
I really like Mia's character. She was a strong person despite her affinity to seeing the dead.
No, I haven't
The Dark Hollow
I enjoyed this immensely!
"Some good parts...some not so good parts."
I did enjoy the narrator Emily Beresford...although I don't know if this was the right book for her to read. There were parts that did confuse me. I don't think the story went from scene to scene in several cases smoothly. Although that could be the authors fault. I did enjoy many parts of the book, especially the last 3 hours.
The ghost farmer.
She did a very good job with the reading and making a difference in the tone of her voice. I know being a person of the opposite sex it is difficult to do a male voice if you are female. I don't like the way she portrayed Whitney I guess is my issue. For that matter...I didn't like the character of Whitney.
In the beginning I didn't think so al all. But when I was about to give up on it, I became interested again.
All in all I enjoyed the book. As I said the last 3 hours kept me glued to the story.
"A gifted author with a terrific cast!"
I enjoy the story telling by both the author and the voice actress. The characters enter the book with ease and find a place quickly into your heart and grow stronger as the story unfolds.
The main character is the bomb!
Cool and HOT at the same time! I also enjoy the group dynamic as the team all become long lost friends to the reader.
Emily brings the Midwest local to life as she introduces each character to audio life with her own charm and careful regard for Alexie's we'll crafted dialog.
In short. It's fun!
I think the warmth of the PEEP's crew and their acceptance of the need for this unusually gifted woman with a past that Mia relates as the group becomes closer.
I loved this book in all it's forms! I look forward to seeing more audible Alexie Aaron books as the whole series becomes available.
"Not at all what I expected"
The story is very amateur sounding. The narration was extremely over done. At times when the people are just talking, the narrator made it sound like they were excited or arguing. I listened to the whole thing, though I don't remember most of it. I kept drifting out of the story because it was so hard to listen to the terrible narration and predictable story line.
"Not too scary with a bit of fun"
First off, three stars isn't a bad rating; it just means that I wasn't particularly "moved" in any emotional way or blown away by the beauty of the writing. I didn't drive around the block over and over again because I was anxious to keep listening and find out what happened next. There was no lyrical prose, the subject matter is rather typical of this genre, and there certainly was no stunning epiphany for this reader. Here, we have a rather formulaic not-too-scary supernatural suspense novel with an endearing enough leading lady and the enjoyable element of history meets mystery. I felt there were too many characters (both living and dead!) to track, and I found myself rewinding to figure out who was who until I got the cast of characters straightened out. (This may be an issue that one encounters listening to a recording vs. reading a printed page.) There was a lot of silly, but often humorous dialogue between the characters (I can tell the author has a sense of humor), but I failed to understand why the author thought the reader needed to know every time one of the characters went to the toilet. (These folks sure do pee a lot!) Also, I found one character's "grief" to be incredibly insincere. "Oh, fiddle dee dee, so-and-so is dead. I'll just go flirt with thus-and-such." The story wasn't very dialogue driven; in fact, it seemed like I was having to really visualize the action in order to understand what was going on. (Ever watch Power Rangers? Yeah, not intentionally, but my oldest son enjoyed them when he was little. There was a lot of pow-pow and not so much was said. That's kind of what I was dealing with in the second half of this book.) The setting was pretty well developed and the underlying mystery was enchanting enough to drive the story, but I didn't extend my evening walk any additional miles to get back to my listening. In any event, I liked Mia Cooper and I always enjoy ghost stories.
I love this book! I wish I could find more in the series. It is exciting, involving, intriguing, and nail biting. The language is awful, be prepared for lots of "f-bombs." That I did not love. This is a great listen!
Yes I think the audio version is better as I haven't read the print version however, I would read it. It was a great, fun listen with a lot of interestingness at Cold Creek Hollow. I received the audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review and would also add the print version to my library.
This is my first book by Alexie Aaron and I think this is a very clever author with a lot of potential.
Emily is a great narrator for this story with there being many characters to work with from the main characters such as Mia and Whit to the ghosts and PEEP as well. A lot to work with. I think Emily did a great job at having to jump back and forth from one to the other so frequently.
No there wasn't any particular moment that moved me although this was a good, fun, and enjoyable listen. It was busy and difficult to figure out who the main characters were. I would like to have seen a more defined main character to identify with rather than multiple characters whom I was confused about a few times. Overall I liked it and would reccomend it.
This book was more drama than ghost hunting. The ghosts were more fun than scary but again I really enjoyed it and look forward to listening to or reading more from this author and narrator.
