They have the beginnings of a perfect family. A husband, a wife, a baby on the way. But something will stop them from being happy as they move into their new house: the power of the undead that roam the halls of their home. The demons that have come to claim them. The darkness that seeks to destroy them. The haunted.

"Never again with this writer"
I stuck to this book because it made me some what mad that I waisted a credit. The book made no scene at all! The only thing that haunted me about this book (and still does) is that it was about an 8 hour listen & the name Cap was spoken about 2 to 300 times, took up a good hour of it. And another 50 times for the saying ( Stove Pipe Hat)! If I ever listen to another book with cap & stove pipe hat, I will return it! WAIST OF A CREDIT!
"New Owners Beware"
This was my first horror book. I couldn't stop listening. Ranking: 9
The first was when Sarah realizes the cold feet she is snuggling with in bed, were not of her husband's, but of a ghost.
No, but I look forward to more. Paula's warm voice and obvious seasoned acting skills hooked me from the get-go till the very end. In particular, her ability to shift voices and sounds - especially in heightened fast-paced dramatic scenes, kept me on the edge of my chair.
When Father Mike was coaching the couple to voice their commands in ridding the intruders.
I expected some sort of resolve/twist at the end, but didn't see this one coming.
I'm not usually drawn to horror stories, but, Michaelbrent's "The Haunting," story was more powerful due to likable couple and the journey we took with them. Paula Slade's narration seemed perfectly in sync with Mr. Collings' intent.
An overwrought detailing of supposedly paranormal events by a frustrated English major. Every detail examined from five different angles, the listener is forced into the characters’ minds and tortured with drawn-out ponderings of what could POSSIBLY be happening…?! Need to be titillated with soft core soap opera-style sex…? Seems all these two have on their minds when they aren’t droning on about imaginings of possible explanations (times three or four) for these drawn-out, boring events. Don’t waste your time or money here – get something like “Paranormal Intruder” instead…
Just made me much more aware of following reviews...
Performance was adequate. Material was awful, so she had little to do to make it interesting.
None of which I can really think...
Torturous writing made these minimal events drag on for what seemed like hours. If I want drawn-out childish details of sex and "true love," I'll read some old Dean Koontz.
"Real fail here."
It is cliche, predictable, and lacks any sort of substance or plot. Basically a string of paranormal experiences with the woman screaming over and over and over. You keep hoping to hear some backstory or character development but it just never happens. How on earth was this a "NYT best seller"? This author took a boring title, threw together a male and female for the ol' "young couple in a new house", and just picked scary situations from different movies for them to be in. OMG thank goodness for the audible no questions asked return policy.
The paranormal situations in some cases were actually interesting! Why on earth didn't he develop the characters or storyline? Could have been a great haunted house story despite the cliches.
It didn't sound like the narrator could have been in any way one of the characters from the book. It sounded like grandma reading you a bedtime story.
Why did this book happen
repetition usually helps someone to remember something, but when the author repeats the same BS so many times that it is almost a third of the book, that is just too much repetition. then there is all the lists of stuff.... I don't care what she found in the boxes in the kitchen moving boxes, or how many pieces of covered furniture, or .... lost sympathy for characters in first 5 minutes, ready for them to die in next 5 minutes. First story??? should not have been written, how about the second story, too bad you didn't write that one, it might have been better.
"Painful to listen to on so many levels"
The story itself is boring with the author attempting to use so many contrived wordy descriptions of the mundane to make them sound more sinister is beyond annoying. It's extremely repetative in phrases.
The woman who reads the book has a voice that is more horrifying than the story itself. I would never buy a book read by her no matter how good the story may be. her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
Don't bother with this book. It's not scary and it is poorly written.
"Not too bad."
I truly did not see the end coming. This was a great book you will enjoy!
"One of the worst books I've read."
This book is boring and just a rip off of The Haunting, The Others, The Exorcist, Twilight Zone and other better books/movies/TV shows. The ending is not shocking as others have reviewed it to be. I saw it coming very soon on into the book.
The only horror of this book is that it just goes on and on and on. It really should have been a short story.
This book had an interesting twist. Didn't see that one coming! If you like ghost stories you'll like this one.
Predictable, I guesses the theme/ Ending within the first chapter. It's hard to miss they shove it in you face alluding to it over and over and over again.
The narration was god awful. The narrator likes to scream A LOT and in my opinion unnecessarily. I get that she is trying to emphasize that it is scary but it's louder than the normal audio and I had to keep pulling my ear buds out to save my hearing. Do not listen to this while driving you will crash your car.
