Summary

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families, and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields. But now a troublemaker has arrived, and there is rumour of revolt. A revolt that depends on criminal that no-one can trust and a young girl who must master Allomancy - the magic that lies in all metals.

An Interesting Concept, Expertly Explored

Keep an open mind and allow all possibilities; this is my philosophy when reading books of this genre..
The highs and lows of emotion are depicted in a, acceptable form.
I found this a fascinating read.

Love Sanderson, Not So Much with Kramer

Would you listen to The Final Empire again? Why?

I think this is a great book, Sanderson is currently creating the best fantasy literature in my opinion (alongside RR Martin when he publishes). That said, I don't usually revisit books once I've read them, except a very rare few so I wouldn't say this question is very relevant for me.

What did you like best about this story?

the up-ending of traditional fantasy is interesting, you don't get a lot of post-dystopian settings in fantasy. I think Sanderson's ability to set up characters you care about and root for, then build up excitement is second to none.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Not a whole lot to love. Sometimes his voice made it difficult to like certain supporting characters, for no good reason. I feel like his tone of voice is a little off-putting and his accents are hammy.

That said, he must be doing something right as he keeps getting chosen to narrate some of my favourite series. Furthermore, it isn't soooo bad that I won't be buying the other Mistborn and Sanderson novels which he reads, but it will probably keep me from revisiting Wheel of Time, which I had wanted to do.

Enthralling Distopian Fantasy Adventure

Great book, great characters, intriguing plot and a new fantasy take on the modern trend towards Distopian adventure. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Excellent and unique.

At first the I found the narrator to be quite monotone but listening further his voice seemed to lend something to the story. The story is very unique and gripping. I look forward to the next in the series!

The chapters were messed up.

Loved the book, loved the story. But the organisation of the chapters is a joke.

Sensational Audiobook and story!

Incredible narration for the book and a very engaging story with amazing characters. I don't think anyone does fantasy world building as well as Brandon Sanderson.

Phenomenal

I have never enjoyed a book so much as this. The characters, the world, the original magic system, the plot twists. Absolutely the best author I have ever read.
