For Caleb Hicks, survival means hiding in plain sight.
Trained from a young age to be a super-soldier, he has worked hard to keep his abilities hidden. But after a disastrous mistake forces him into military service, hiding his skills becomes increasingly difficult. To maintain his cover, he isolates himself, rarely speaking and discussing his past with no one.
After finding love in the wake of catastrophe, he will finally reveal the secrets of his childhood, his training, and the tragic events of his life following the Outbreak. Packed with intense action, thrills, and suspense, The Darkest Place is a harrowing tale of love, loss, and survival against all odds.
And ultimately, of the enduring power of hope.

"Great series! A"
Start this series read the books and marvel story arc crashed into a powerful plot point..,
Liked the background story of Caleb Hicks. Guy Williams does a very good narration, so don't replace him!
The entire series has been great. Can't wait to listen to the next book, Savages.
Hope it's as good s the rest.
"Still the best in genre for a series on audiobook."
I don't listen to books more than once but if there was a series i was forced to isten to, I hope it's one of Cook's StheD books.
"Great back story book in the series."
One of the best overall series on Audible. Likable good guys loathable bad guys believable characters and the narrator is perfect.
Imperfect characters with very human moments. Very well written. Nice to have the backstory on likable persons. Will keep going with the series
"Good Zombie Series"
I'm an avid zombie fiction reader. Actually almost anything to do with any kind of an apocalypse. This is one of the better ones I've read.
"Outstanding post apocalyptic story!!"
Absolutely great book. Probably my favorite out of 150+ books I own. Different from the other books of this story but a great parallel.
it's easy to follow the storyline. it gave a clear view of the other main character.
"A bit of a non-sequitur..."
as 90% of the book is the backstory of Caleb Hicks. A good story with lots of new characters, most of whom don't make it. I'm not giving away the ending, as the Hicks makes it clear throuhout the telling of his story, that it doesn't end well.
