Life for Kansas was perfect until the day the world changed. She has been hiding out for four years in solitude. It's the only way to survive. The only way not to draw the living dead. Helping a small group of people, she learns the new world might not be what she assumes. Venturing out of her refuge and comfort zone, she meets Rudy, who helps her find a greater purpose. She realizes that the world has moved on without her. Only it's not what she expects. Her knowledge of the living dead grows and only makes her more curious as humanity continues to hang on by a thread. While on her search for answers she finds comfort in new friendships and love, but her past seems as if it will haunt her forever. Kansas takes it upon herself to help other survivors, which would be easy if the famished were the only obstacles. In a trilogy plot thick with twists and turns, it is emotional as much as it is horrifyingly gripping.

Without a doubt the worst audio book I have had the misfortune to listen too. This is like Mills and Boon with zombies, it starts out badly and goes down hill from there. The plot is nonsensical and the characters are superficial cliches. The author seems to have taken all the ingredients from every post apocalyptic/zombie story ever told and just chucked them into the plot in a random fashion.
To be fair I have to say that I am obviously not amongst the intended audience for this audiobook, working on the principle of an infinite universe there must be somebody somewhere who will enjoy this story.
"GREAT BOOK - Bad Narration"
I loved this book when I read it, and I was so excited to see it as an audio book. I have listened to a ton of audio books, and this, by far, is one of the worst narrations I have ever heard. I feel like she is extremely rushed and it has been hard to follow. I would not recommend the audiobook, but I would absolutely recommend the actual book. I think Annie Walls did a fantastic job on this and the 2nd book. I am extremely bummed that this audio version was so bad...
"Entertaining Story, Monotone Naration"
But..Narration is boring and monotone with the one exception of a minor character, Glenda the hooker.
"story was great but the narrator was horrid."
the story kept my interest with the zombie and characters, but the narrator.... who stops a mess up and rereads it on an audio book??? was this book lie budget and couldn't afford to redo the dry mouth or saying the wrong sentence and literally starting over??? it's not the narrators fault and I feel bad the negativity will get directed towards her because her voice fit perfect besides the fact she could of been more animated. but she was the perfect voice. I've already bought book 2 i hope the budget is bigger because she is a narrator and the story is good. looking forward with a positive mind :-)
I thought the book was going to be horrible because of the reviews on here. I was pleasantly surprised though. the narrator did have done problems during a portion of the book but it worked itself out. I'm really enjoying the book and ready for the second book.
good story but the performance was lacking; not the voice but the mechanics of the recording
"Hardly a Zombie Story"
Terrible! This is pretty low level writing. You can actually determine who is a decent person and who is not solely on their physical description. All decent men are describe in several pages of details with a reminder that the main character wants to jump their bones. All bad men are described as unattractive with a reminder that she doesn't want to bone them.
I forced myself to finish this and I really mean forced. There were several times that the story was so terrible that I just couldn't do it anymore and tore my head phones off. I even chose that terrible house music they play at the gym over this story a couple times. my commitment to find is finishing was not rewarded.
"ready for book 2"
keeps ya on the edge & a great underlying mystery. I can't wait to start the next book
