Summary
Captain Mitchell "Ares" Williams is a Space Marine and the hero of the Battle for Liberty, whose Shot Heard 'Round the Universe saved the planet from a nearly unstoppable war machine. He's handsome, charismatic, and the perfect poster boy to help the military drive enlistment. Pulled from the war and thrown into the spotlight, he's as efficient at charming the media and bedding beautiful celebrities as he was at shooting down enemy starfighters.
After an assassination attempt leaves Mitchell critically wounded, he begins to suffer from strange hallucinations that carry a chilling and oddly familiar warning:
They are coming. Find the Goliath or humankind will be destroyed.
Convinced that the visions are a side-effect of his injuries, he tries to ignore them, only to learn that he may not be as crazy as he thinks. The enemy is real and closer than he imagined, and they'll do whatever it takes to prevent him from rediscovering the centuries lost starship.
Narrowly escaping capture, out of time and out of air, Mitchell lands at the mercy of the Riggers - a ragtag crew of former commandos who patrol the lawless outer reaches of the galaxy. Guided by a captain with a reputation for cold-blooded murder, they're dangerous, immoral, and possibly insane.
They may also be humanity's last hope for survival in a war that has raged beyond eternity.

Excellent book, great narration!
Good book that I finished in two days. I have so often been disappointed by poor, even amateurish narration that ruins a great book, but this was absolutely excellent!

Good book
It’s a bit of a ‘blokey’ book but it’s an interesting story. I’m guessing it’s the first of a number of books and I’ll definitely listen to the next one.

Excellent series!
I listened to one of M R Forbes by Jeff Hays. And really enjoyed it, so naturally I looked to see if he'd more audiobook series. Ooo look and yes it's by Jeffrey Kafer. An audio Narrator of impeccable standards with SciFi and someone who I really enjoy listening to. So it was a given I'd buy all 4 of these books (shame that he's not got the 5th one out already.. come on guys...... keep going!)
Anyway, so the first book. A very enjoyable story. Mitch, is an awkward character to get to like at first. Driven to act out a lie in order to get more people to join the Alliance war effort. A really crappy situation for anyone. I would think the only thing that really gets to me is how much the women do swoon over this marine... yes he's been bigged up as a hero, but really are women that shallow, is he that shallow?
Well we soon learn that even though he is a bit of a shallow person he's hidden depths to his reasons. The love he had for Ella who was the real Hero of Liberty does come across, and I can quite see him sleeping with anyone and anything just because he's actually pretty traumatised by the whole event.
When he chooses to bed his latest conquest it really doesn't go well. And this is the catalyst to his escape and joining forces with Admiral Norian, of the Riggas. A criminal outcast military organisation...
The twists and turns in this are really well done, fast paced, full of action and exciting. I couldn't wait to tune in for the next one.
Awesome team up here, great writing, and a narrator who pulls off any character thrown his way. Highly recommended.

Loved it....had me fully engaged from start to finish. If you are a fan of Miltary science fiction in general, this book is certainly worth a listen.

For falling asleep
Nothing about this book is original or great. it does however do the job of being interesting enough to fall asleep to.

Good story but so much clichés
Story is OK, performance very good. you can't escape of classic clichés in this book. Main character thinks more with his d$ck than head, and obviously he is desired by most of female characters.

Narration
Really enjoyed narration, will buy 2nd book in series but sometimes found it difficult for story line to hold my attention. Hopefully next book will be better.
