The Republic is decaying, even under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, who was elected to save the galaxy from collapsing under the forces of discontent.
On the tiny but strategic planet of Ansion, a powerful faction is on the verge of joining the growing secessionist movement. At the Chancellor's request, the Jedi Council sends two Jedi Knights, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luminara Unduli, along with their Padawans Anakin Skywalker and Barriss Offee, to stabilize the planet's population. To succeed, the Jedi will have to fulfill near-impossible tasks, befriend wary strangers, and influence two great armies - stalked all the while by an enemy sworn to see the negotiations collapse and the mission fail.

"The best things are the new creations. The landscape and animal life of Ansion is wonderfully described. . . .[along with] some excellent fight scenes and a display of lightsaber gymnastics." (SFX magazine)
"Foster delves into the internal conflict of Anakin Skywalker and the psyche of the Jedi." (USA Today)
"Adams reads expertly and confidently, and his storytelling powers flow with Jedi force." (AudioFile)

I just wish this and so many others weren't abridged... At least have a full version available for those of us who enjoy them. Please?
"Great great book"
A must read. Plus it tells how our favorite Jedi gone Sith (skywalker) gets the scratch on his face
Had me on suspense. Love it
"Title says it all"
Very good set up to all of the strive we are led to vêlage in the movies
all but giving away the ending too soon. it is a great book. I enjoyed it
"The Approaching Storm is below average"
The Approaching Storm was promising and could have been so much better if Mark Thompson had narrated it. I would also like to have learnt more about young Skywalker and his development of psyche.
The planet descriptions of Ansion are the better part of the novel and some new characters, natives of Ansion, are also contributing to the positive elements of the book.
The dialogue is not well written and the main story-line is sometimes artificial and "too much" of "too little"..
I like the framework of the story. It fits well to the rest of the movie prequel but is not fully worked out.
This was my 58th Star Wars novel and if you want something from the top of the table of Star Wars, go for the Old Republic novels, such as Deceived and Revan.
Fate of the Jedi requires that you follow the whole series (18 novels) with the soon grande finale Apocalypse being the best....
Joakim V. - Swedens's number one star Wars fanatic!
This book provided small insights to the world of Star Wars. I loved the storyline and the way the plot unfolded. It was more then an interesting book to listen to.
"Kind of Weak"
I love Alan Dean Foster's books. I've read all of them I could get my hands on: Flinx and Pip books, Cachalot, Midworld, et.al. I even read Splinter of the Mind's Eye which was an excellent book in the Starwars saga. I just found this book to be weak. It was fairly predicatble and did not have very deep or engaging plot lines. It was an okay listen, but definitely not my favorite Alan Dean Foster Book... That would be reserved for Cachalot or Midworld.
"not much in this"
this seemed a little like lord of the rings. if you removing all the walking to and from things, nothing truly happens.
