Publisher's Summary

In the Stars Wars galaxy, evil is on the move as the Galactic Alliance and Jedi Order battle forces seen and unseen, from rampant internal treachery to the nightmare of all-out war.

With each victory against the Corellian rebels, Jacen Solo becomes more admired, more powerful, and more certain of achieving galactic peace. But that peace may come at a price. Despite strained relationships caused by opposing sympathies in the war, Han and Leia Solo and Luke and Mara Skywalker remain united by one frightening suspicion: someone insidious is manipulating this war, and if he or she isn't stopped, all efforts at reconciliation may be for naught. And as sinister visions lead Luke to believe that the source of the evil is none other than Lumiya, Dark Lady of the Sith, the greatest peril revolves around Jacen himself.

"Very well done! A great series!"

Very well done for a Star Wars audiobook. Even though it is abridged, the 6 hour run-time leaves enough material to make this audiobook entertaining. That said, you can still notice gaps where, I assume, material was cut out for the abridgement. This can be annoying after a while. I won't beat around the bush, I loathe any abridgement and I would encourage people to complain to the publisher so that they will begin releasing unabridged versions of these books. Other than that, this book was excellent. Marc Thompson is one of the most talented narrators that I have heard. It is a pleasure to listen to him. The different character voices that he assumes throughout the book are executed flawlessly and I had to keep reminding myself that it was the same person speaking. The writing, sound production, and music were all top notch. I would give this 5 stars if not for the abridgement.

One last thing, stay away from any of the star wars audiobooks that are less than 6 hours in length. They are so butchered by the abridgements, that they are not worth your time or money. Quite a few of these are narrated by Anthony Heald and he is just plain awful. I found this out the hard way. Just remember, Anthony Heald = extremely poor narration. Jonathan Davis = Extremely good narration. Marc Thompson = Outstanding narration.

    "Enjoyable"

Another enjoyable entry in this series, told with intensity. It's easy to get hooked on this series. I usually listen on my commute, but spent time at home listening on my iPod and completed this book in less than 2 days.

    "abridged"

the whole sad thing about this entire series is that it's not available in another bridge form. And even though the story is good the performance is great and you really don't know what you're missing unless you read the book you know you're getting cheated because there's part of it that you're not able to hear.

"Every Series Has a Weak Point"
Would you try another book from Aaron Allston and/or Marc Thompson?

If Allston didn't have another book in this series, and three more books in the sequel series, then no. Let's just say that any of his books outside of the 'Legacy of the Force' and 'Fate of the Jedi' series' I will be ignoring.

Thompson on the other hand is fantastic, and I plan on making my way through all the Star Wars books he's narrated.

What could Aaron Allston have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not written it? That sounds harsh, but this just felt like filler. There's a detour to Ziost that hasn't paid off yet, except for a weird Sith ship that really hasn't done much (I'm on Book 7 as of writing this). Nothing really major happens in this novel, and I feel like it could've been condensed into the last book.

Which character – as performed by Marc Thompson – was your favorite?

I didn't really pay attention to Thompson's acting this go round. He's been the best part of these novels so far, but even he felt off here.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Only because it's Star Wars.

    Any additional comments?

Firstly the characters. They were fine, except for Ben and oddly enough Lando. Something about Allston's Lando feels off, like he's more or a caricature than an actual character. And Love Commander? Seriously? Lando's supposed to be smooth a suave, but I actually expected him to sing "Who's the black private dick, That's a sex machine to all the chicks?"

Ben feels off too, but in a different way. He takes this strange detour to one of the homeworlds of the Sith that frankly, goes nowhere, and he even contemplates abandoning, and then eating a young girl! What the actual hell? I realize this was the corruption of the dark side trying to weave it's way into Ben, but this was just weird.

Then there's the story, or I guess lack thereof. I'm sorry, but Allston seems to be the weakest of the trio. He got the series off to a good start in Betrayal, but it really felt like there was no reason for this book to exist. No real revelations are made, and there isn't even any huge action scene towards the end.
