Summary

South takes place in a USA ravaged by civil war.

It's been 30 years since the first wind-borne viruses ended the war between North and South - and still they keep coming. Every wind brings a new and terrifying way to die. The few survivors live in constant fear, hiding from the wind - and from each other.

In the harsh Southern expanse, brothers Garrett and Dyce Jackson are on the run from brutal law enforcers. They meet Vida, a lone traveler on a secret quest. Together they will journey into the dark heart of a country riven by warfare and disease.

This is the story of Dyce and Vida. It is the story of end-time. This is the story of The Cure and how it came too late. This is the story of South.

Enjoyable and an easy listen. A little predictable

Good story and enjoyable. Narrator came across well with his southern drawl. still a little unsure what year it was set in but hey it didn't really matter.

A massive disappointment

I really loved the concept of this book - an alternate reality without a 'United' States of America, married to a disease-ridden post-apocolyptical wasteland appealed to me. Unfortunately the concept was the only good thing about this book. The plot, pacing, dialogue and characterization were terrible, the book dragged and was so very dull (it's fairly impressive how boring the author managed to make chase scenes actually). Time and again individuals made stupid, out of character decisions which took you out of the story and made the whole thing painful to read. And the 'old-timey' aphorisms everyone used ALL THE TIME never stopped being irritating.
A special mention must be made for the narration - this is honestly the worst I've ever heard. The terrible 'American South' accent grated so badly - like nails on a blackboard.
Avoid like the plague.
