Epic.

I was apprehensive when I first started listening to this series but I am so very glad that I did. The last few minutes of this book really hit me where it counts.

If you have even a passing interest in fantasy then I highly recommend you get cracking on this series. It's worth mentioning that this story is only set in the dungeons and dragons universe, you really do not need any knowledge or love for the franchise to enjoy these (I had no knowledge).

I recommend you start from the beginning, it gives the whole tale a truly epic feel.

Great closure to the trilogy

Narration 8/10
The narration is pretty solid. The voices do fit the characters, the speed is just right and overall it is well done. However I'd like a bit more "soul" to it, something extra to make it a bit more exciting and reaching to the listener, but overall it's really solid and well done.

Story 7.5/10
Continuing the story for the previous two books in the trilogy Drizzt has left the underdark and is now trying to live on the surface.
This book is the best in the trilogy, We see Drizzt struggling to become part of groups on the surface, trying to prove what he really is while everyone is being racist towards him, considering him evil because he is a Dark Elf. Overall I found the interactions with the other races really great, along with the evolution of the character, his realizations, him seeking for a purpose and finding a god to follow.

Overall I'd recommend this to any fantasy fan, even though I'd say it is more suited for younger ages rather than adults. If you just want something to pleasantly spend your time not expecting anything special out of it, go for it.

Narrators is good but...

I really enjoyed the book and Victor Bevine does a wonderful job, however there were a few times in the story where something was “short lived” but he said lived like lie-ved. Like a live electric cable, took me out of the book every time

Salvatore is brilliant

despite some errors (naming and mix up of race) I thoroughly enjoyed this reading of Sojourn.

Great story read poorly

No soul to the reading no acting ability. Mispronounced words... It is "shore lived" not "short lye-ved" and others.... Sigh... Someone needs to quality check the readers of the book that audible are charging money for for quality... sigh...

I wouldn't give R.A.S roleplaying XP for this...

And the Character Backstory Trilogy reaches its conclusion, where "conclusion" means a sequence of loosely connected events cobbled together as excuses for setting up everything Drizzt can do in the Icewind Dale trilogy.
Once again, R.A.Salvatore manages to utterly fail at tension. There can be no surprises when everything is explained to the reader (or listener) instantly.

All events in this book just serve to add the Ranger template to Drizzt and move his location to Icewind Dale. The events between are mostly just filler, and consist of tedious combat sequences and the idiotic Drow determining which races it is alright to kill without it being morally wrong... or for that matter whether the disposable characters along the way should be treated as new bestest best friends or targets for righteous evisceration.

It also doesn't help that Victor Bevine tries to be melodramatic about it, but just makes characters in supposedly serious situations sound goofy, and seems to struggle with certain D&D terminology. Also he doesn't understand that "live" doesn't always rhyme with "dive", but then all audiobook narrators seem to have at least one word they're incapable of pronouncing correctly.

Great finish to the trilogy

Great performance by the reader, good story, and especially lovely for those familiar with the D&D universe
