Like millions of other kids, Jim grew up wanting to be a superhero. Unlike most of his contemporaries, however, Jim actually had the goods: a plethora of super powers that would have been the envy of any meta on the planet. But when his tryout with the Alpha League - the world's premiere group of supers - goes disastrously wrong, Jim basically becomes an outcast.
Two years later, Jim is still bitter about what happened to him. However, he soon finds himself the centerpiece in an odd turn of events that gives him a second chance at his dream. But nothing is as easy as it sounds, as Jim soon discovers. Among other things, he's made an enemy of a prospective super teammate, he's being stalked by an unknown pursuer, and a shadowy cabal bent on world domination has identified him as the only obstacle to their plans.
It's a lot for one super to handle, even with a smorgasbord of abilities. But if saving the world were easy, everyone would do it.

"Pacing is off but overall fun"
Sensation provides an enjoyable story of teenage superhero trying out for a famous superhero team and finding out it's not as rosy and straight forward as he thought. There are a few twists and mysteries throughout to keep you engaged and guessing.
It's a fun story, but not without it's flaws.
The main character is in some ways overpowered, with a plethora of powers (superspeed, teleportation, flight, shapeshifting and so on). Even powers he doesn't have can be emulated (as he mentions a few times about super strength). Add to that he is trained in fighting and is super observant and smart he really has very few flaws. Which means that there is never any real concern about him in the story, other than the teenage embarrassment issues and absentee father issues. There is little doubt he will fail, it's just a question of how he succeeds.
There is also a bit of a pacing issue. A large section midway through (if this was a 6 issue comic then issue #3) is a detailed flashback telling the story of his disastrous tryout a few years ago. While it is an important story, it is a little long in the tooth and feels out of place where it is. It kills the momentum of the story up until that point.
Despite these flaws it really is a good addition of the 'superhero' genre.
Narration by Mikael Naramore is well done. Easy to follow, with different characters and emotions. There was the occasional few places where the pacing was off, putting strange pauses mid sentence but nothing significant. Overall, also really enjoyable.
"Slice of [superhero] life!"
This book is written like a slice of life novel, and it moves along perfectly. I couldn’t help but laugh a few times, because Jim is surprisingly normal despite all the super powers, and even he has some really awkward social moments. Sensation is a mixture of YA and fantasy, and overall, it is very enjoyable. It’s a good start to a series because it introduces the protagonist well.
This is the first book I’ve listened to narrated by Mikael Naramore and I’m absolutely impressed. The narration is lively without being strained, and he just made the entire book come to life. I think if you listen to this audiobook, you might not be able to read the physical copy because the narration is so flawless.

"If you like superhero novels, get this audiobook!!"
After 25 years of bouncing back between Sci Fi and Fantasy as my favorite genres for novels, I can now honestly say that my new favorite is definitely Superhero novels, and I think this series is great.
The story follows Kid Sensation, a multi-powered teen who tries out for the a superhero team, but things go awry, and the story follows what happens after that incident.
When I first started the series, I thought that maybe Kid Sensation had too many powers, like Peter from Season 1 of Heroes. :) But the author handles it well, and limits the character at times, and it ended up not bothering me at all.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and Mikael Naramore as a narrator is top notch. He has many distinct voices, and switches between them smoothly, even the female characters.
I am currently on book 4, "Revelation" and I the series is still going great. If you like books like Drew Hayes's "Super Powereds", then give this audiobook a chance.
This audiobook was not a gift, and I bought this with my own money. More superhero novels, please! :)
"Classic Comic Tropes Well Done"
My friend Riordan suggested I try this book and I am glad I did. I chose the audible version and the performance was well done.
This book plays heavily on many classic tropes, but they are well done and enjoyable. As a young adult novel I would consider it appropriate for ages 11ish and up. I recall a curse word and two violent depictions of death or dismemberment. Neither of which is gone into in details that would give nightmares.
Great job and I will be getting the rest of this audible line.
"Lots of twists..."
I like the voice the author had for his main character, I found him to funny and very down to earth. However sometime I felt like the decisions he made were very foolish, as if they were made just to push the story along at slower parts. All in all it was worth the "read".
This was quite an entertaining book. Well written and good for teens as well as adults. Good luck and happy reading. MRB
it was a fun book. the narrator did a good job. i just would've liked for there more violence and maybe a nice love scene.
