Summary
They hunt us. They bomb our worlds for target practice.
A star cluster in the constellation of Orion rotates once every thousand years. Those who rule there have an ancient tradition: When each cycle ends, they train their fleets by spilling the blood of lesser beings.
The enemy fleets are coming again. In response, the Rebel Worlds gather their starships to face the terrifying threat, and this time humanity is asked to stand with them.
The last time they considered Earth, Vikings in longboats were raiding English coastlines. Today, we're less primitive. Today, we're a target.
One man is chosen to command Earth's single ship in the Rebel Fleet. When the war breaks out, Leo Blake must win it...or die trying.
"Classic B. V. Larson. This book grabs you by the plasma cannon and won't let go. Fast adventure, fast action - and I loved the space-battles!" - S. Arthur

Just good spoiler free review
I was sceptical when I got this, I didn't think it was possible for B V to pull off another good space based book.
I was wrong, I don't know how but I loved every minute of it.
Mark's performance is stellar again, I'm so impressed with his craft.
More please. No holidays or family time just keep writing until you die.
Thanks so much again.

Like a bad poorly scripted & budgeted action movie
So this book is so full of holes and compromises and conveniences that I can't give it anything more than 1 star.
it reads like an action movie equivalent of a cheap and dirty hot and steamy romance novel.
if you are looking for something which required switching off the brain. to the point of a being a bad B movie, where the protagonist is a cocky, sleeping with anything male veined in the thinnest sense of fake modesty. then by all means enjoy. Surprised I finished it to be honest. I don't think I'll be reading the rest of the series.

Unique
I always enjoy a B.V. Larson audiobook but Rebel Fleet stands out from the rest. Gripping with pace and filled with unique concepts.
Loved it.

Shark jumping? Shark jumping.
Whilst the voice performance was good, the story just goes above and beyond credible belief. It's practically a Mary Sue storyline, with a completely one dimensional protagonist and supporting characters. He's practically batman - his batutility belt being replaced instead with a "sim".

Passable
What did you like best about Rebel Fleet? What did you like least?
The setting, the story was touch silly.
What could B. V. Larson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
A stronger story, that didn't insult the intelligence. A military couldn't operate successfully that way. I suppose it has shades of a Spartan style of organisation and philosophy, but that didn't work out for them, so how would an advanced extra-terrestrial military machine manage using a similar system?
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Space battles.
Do you think Rebel Fleet needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. Story too weak.
Any additional comments?
The style of the writing made me think it had been written by a teenager.

Another Entertaining Story
Knowing how prolific an author B V Larson is, I was looking for something to tickle my fancy as I had a spare credit. Searching for Larson's name I was not surprised to see a new book entitled Rebel Fleet. I checked out the sample and that was it, I immediately purchased the book!
Larson has a knack of grabbing your interest very quickly and then holding it and the sample alone sold me on getting this book. I have read quite a few Larson books now including all of the Star Force series and all of the Undying Mercenaries books to date. Larsson stories are always so accessible and are fast paced. Some authors overdo the science fiction element and pen huge epics that are often overly cerebral and slow paced but Larson makes his stories straightforward and action packed. There are no wasted words in his style of writing and the prose are direct, efficient and pacey. Sure, some elements of his stories might lack the more high brow sophistication of other writers works but they are always entertaining without the driftwood you get with a lot of other books out there.
As to Rebel Fleet itself? Well, it could be argued that this is a variation on a theme, Perhaps it might in many ways be a Star Force version 2 as the adversarial method of recruiting members to fight for a higher cause is derivative of the Star Force books. However, Larson always writes diverse and interesting aliens with their own and rigid cultural imperatives which are often inflexible and rooted in primitive instincts which make for colourful characters that our far more dynamic thinking human protagonist, Leo Blake, makes good use of.
Nevertheless, this is still a great read and as entertaining as Larson stories usually are. How Larson writes so many books a year and it seems in parallel with other series (Mr Larson, if you're reading this then I'm waiting for the next in the Undying Mercenaries series please!).
I was very pleased and relieved to see that the excellent Mark Boyett provided narration services and it is good to see that the same narrator is doing most of the Larson books as it provides a nice sense of consistency. Boyett does a great job as usual. He is able to voice many characters but I did find that his British character was rendered sounding a little like an Australian despite the fact that he apparently hailed from Manchester, UK. Now, if any American narrator can do a convincing Manmcunean then I'd like to hear it!
If you've not read any science fiction or any of Larson's work then Rebel Fleet is a great place to start.

surprisingly. not that bad!
I've read all the StarForce books.. every one. and loved them. so of course I wanted to try this. I was concerned it would be another reiteration. same old story, with a "new" Riggs.
and to be fair, to a lesser or greater degree it was a bit. but it still had its own appeal. and I listened to the end. so... well done Larson... you entertained me again.

Good story
Enjoyable story nicely written and well voiced by Mark Boyette, it wasn't spectacular but it was still a good listen. My only gripe is the accent put on for the 'Dalton' character who is described as being from Manchester, however throughout this book (and the next in the series) the perform affects a Jason Statham-Esque London cockney. Im nit picking here of course but it was kind of annoying. But still overall a good listen.
