The Patternist is a telepathic race, commanded by the Patternmaster, whose thoughts can destroy, heal, rule. Coransee, son of the ruling Patternmaster, wants the throne and will stop at nothing to get it, including venture into the wild mutant-infested hills to destroy a young apprentice - his equal and his brother.

Published in 1976, I assume it is. Intrigued by her protagonists and their behaviour, I shall now eagerly pursue her subsequent offerings, in chronological order.
Listen to the series in the series order, not the publication order. This book is worth a listen because it finished the story, but as her first published, it lacks the polish of the other three.
"FINALLY SOMETHING LIVES UP TO WILD SEED!!"
Brilliant narrator who wonderfully makes the listener believe that he has intimate knowledge of more than a dozen different characters.
The story itself reminds me of the first book by Octavia Butler that I read, and the reason I'm so into AfroFuturism, Wild Seed. For a while I was worried that Wild Seed was the best story of the genre and that I would never again experience the unadulterated joy of a story of that caliber. I've been exposed to other works by Octavia and other writers and found myself wanting more than the works could offer. This book totally restored my faith.
"Ready for the screen, big or small!"
Octavia's Patternist series has long been a favorite of mine. This audio version was an entertaining performance, but left me wanting more. I'll always miss Octavia. This should be adapted to the screen for a new generation to enjoy with all its politico social nuances.
This was an awesome audible. Octavia E. Butler is in a lane of her own and delivers every time. The only thing missing is the next book, which unfortunately will never come to pass. I love her work.
Great read. I reallly love this series.
The readers voices are very well matched to the stories.
"love this author"
awesome book. narrator did a grwat job. I would recommend this book to others
"Short but interesting"
Shorter than I expected, but still an interesting plot. Wishing for another in the series!
this last installment was a bit lack luster. This was not my favorite series from Octavia.
"Great imagination, thin plot."
The story was interesting even if it was a little thin. I struggle to say anything that's not complimentary of the queen, Ms. Butler so I'll just say it was good and not great.
There's great imagination in the premise & the story shows a lot of potential for a hook-you kind of series. I'm looking forward to reading the other books & exploring this world.
Octavia butler is pure genius. this book was worth every penny. took my imagination to a fantastic place.
