Summary

In or out of the Alliances, sorcerers and necromancers are considered a myth - until a single, shadowy figure brings those myths to life.

In or out of the Alliances, nobody is prepared for that...

The BlackWing Pirates, a fleet of space cruisers that form a secret branch of the Alliance Security Detail, discover what a myth-come-to-life is capable of doing when this sinister aberration begins a slow and deliberate attack against the upcoming Joint Alliances Conclave.

In the ensuing chaos, where deaths are unexplained and the impossible becomes possible, the BlackWing Pirates' most effective weapon turns out to be a blind clairvoyant, who sees better than anyone when his eyes are closed...

An interesting fusion of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

MindSighted: BlackWing Pirates, Book 1
An interesting fusion of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

First, let me say this in an interesting world, magic, spaceships, dragons, demons and laser guns do not normally go together well yet here they do. The author does a great job in making the world seem normal to the people in it which that allows all these Sci-Fi and Fantasy bits to become a natural seeming whole. Connie Suttle has put together a world that I would love to see more of, it would even make a good setting for a game. With all the different races and politics it is a similar setting to Mass Effect but with the powers replace with magic and different races.

The characters are both extremely well written and narrated with both the choice of language and the voice for them making each seem distinct and believable. As the point of view switches between the characters, it gives you a great chance to get to know them and their thoughts allowing you to understand and care about the characters more. The Traci Odom's narration really helps keep track of which character is talking and what is going on keeping you immersed in the world and story never having to pause to work out what is going on or who is talking.

Both author and narrator are going on my short list next time I am looking for an audiobook.
This book was more than worth my time to listen to, I enjoyed the whole experience.

Could have been better

Any additional comments?

The book was from multiple perspective and I found this quite confusing in the beginning. As the story progress it wasn't to bad but there were times that I wasn't sure who was saying what.
There are too many characters and I couldn't remember some of the secondary characters when they were mentioned.
I found out that there is a whole series (based on the adults in this book) before this spin off based on the children when they are older. So a lot of things might seem clearer (character wise) if you know what happened before hand. Since I have not read any of the authors book before this I can say that you could start with this series even if you haven't read the previous series. however you do feel you have missed things when the characters mention something that's happened to them in the past.
There is bad language used in this book which I found it didn't need at all. It sounded strange when some of the characters swore I felt they were forced instead of it coming out naturally. In the beginning there weren't any and then as soon as one person started they all did it.
There is no sexual content in this book except kissing. However, there is mention of multiple partners, which is not my cup of tea.
Randl liked the lead female and she liked Trent and Travis (twins). Yes that's right she doesn't just like one she likes both. It's as if you can't choose one you have to take both. So there is a love triangle. I believe she is a bit shallow since she liked their body and how good they were in a fight and Randl liked her, which I didn't understand why. There is nothing special about her except that she makes guns and is meant to be really intelligent. Except for this I found her to be moody and swear a lot. I felt it was cliched. Travis and Trent's mother is Queen and she has multiple partners. So it's a lottery for the mates when she gets pregnant because they don't know if its going to be theirs.
