Summary
'The dead are seldom silent. All that is required for them to be heard is that someone be willing to listen. I have been listening to the dead all my life.'
Lady Lilith Montgomery is the daughter of the sixth Duke of Radnor. She is one of the most beautiful young women in London and engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor. She is also a witch.
When her father dies, her hapless brother Freddie takes on his title. But it is Lilith who inherits their father's role as Head Witch of the Lazarus Coven. And it is Lilith who must face the threat of the Sentinels, a powerful group of dark sorcerers...
Lilith knows the Lazarus creed: secrecy and silence. She has spent her life honouring the code. But then she meets Bram. With him, she must not be secret nor silent.
Despite her loyalty to the coven and duty to her family, Lilith cannot keep her life as a witch hidden from the man she loves - yet, to tell him will risk everything.

Awful narrator!
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
I could not stand the whining voice of the narrator, one to avoid at all costs! She repeatedly puts the incorrect emphasis on words and makes everything sound so depressing.
Has Midnight Witch put you off other books in this genre?
I have read many in this genre - this book has only put me off listening to anything else narrated by Marisa Calin
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Marisa Calin fills you with doom and gloom with a whining, miserable narrative.

Disappointed
What would have made Midnight Witch better?
I didn't even finish it. The main character was wishywashy. No way would she have been a Coven leader.
What was most disappointing about Paula Brackston’s story?
It bored me. I gave up listening.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointed
Any additional comments?
Even the narrator was dull.

Wish I'd read the reviews.
Had I read the reviews I wouldn't have bought this. It's dull. The lead character is weak and the plot line, which could have been great, was whining and dreary.
The narrator was ok though.
Avoid.
So, I stuck with it, the last hour could have been condensed to 15 minutes tops.

Reasonable yarn for a car journey!
I wasn’t really sure where this story was going for much of the time. No clear cohesive thread between the different elements. It was listenable though and entertained me on car journeys. The most annoying thing was the narrator. The pronunciation of the words either and neither, irritated me immensely!
We are not American, and so the pronunciation eeether and neeether really rankled.
I have enjoyed other stories by this author, and would engage with more.

dull, uninteresting and going nowhere, and the narrator just isn't for me, rather monotone and made a dull book even duller

Not enthralled with this one
After reading most of Paula Brackston's audible books I was very disapointed with this one. The story was slow, repetitive and frankly boring. The reader was fine, but without a decent storyline was wasted on this one.

Not my favourite
I didn't hate this book but it's not as good as Paula Brackston's other works.

Supernatural easy listening
I found this easy, enjoyable and relaxing listening for the evening. Teens would enjoy too.
