Publisher's Summary

World War Three wiped out the humankind. The planet is empty now. Huge cities became dust and ashes. Railroads are being eaten by rust. Abandoned satellites hang lonely in their orbits. Radio is mute on all frequencies. The only survivors of the last war were those who made it into the gates of the Metro, the subway system of Moscow city.

It's there, hundreds of feet below the ground, in the vaults of what was constructed as the world's largest air-raid shelter, where now people try to outlive the end of days. It's there that they created a new world for themselves. The stations of the Metro became city-states, and its citizens, torn apart by religions and ideologies, are fighting for now-scarce commodities: air, water, and space.

This tiny underground world can only remind humans of an immense world they once were the masters of. It's been 20 years since Doomsday, and yet the survivors refuse to give up. The most stubborn of them keep cherishing a dream: when the radiation level from nuclear bombings subsides, they will be able to return to the surface and have the life their parents once had. But the most stubborn of the stubborn continues to search for other survivors in this huge emptiness that once was called Earth. His name is Artyom. He would give anything to lead his own people from the underground onto the surface.

And he will.

    "Disappointing"

An anti-climactic and weak end to the series which lost most of the first book's wonder and charm, devaluing a fascinating and unique setting with Illuminati-style nonsense and various questionable plot twists that become obnoxiously predictable.

"Not as good as the 1st two"

Bit of a letdown. Some parts went on a bit and lost its way but it was a must after reading the 1st two. It was nice how he spliced the 1st two books into the 3rd. Linked up well

    "Extremely different"

Great final chapter 2 and extremely different sort of story really shows corruption of political interest in the haves and the have nots, people choosing to be sheep and one man's ideals are his ideals no matter how much he fights, people will always choose the easy option change is more scary than freedom,

For me this book could be studied like books from the past such as animal farm and Lord of the flies there is a lot more here than I can write short paragraph about true work of art and I feel it will be a classic

"I was so excited, I pre-ordered the book... oops.."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book was unlike the rest of the books in his story... You can always tell when a writer is out of material because they fill space with cursing and sex. The "f-bombs" were over the top and at one point as a character drops the skirt of a woman to finger her in front of her husband, I just had enough. In one chapter the author drops the dialogue tags (ie "said Sally" "responded Joe") The narrator tried to change voices as best he could, but it was terrible. If that was what the first 2 books had been like, that would be expected, but this was so unlike the author that it was sad.

Has Metro 2035 turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I liked the first two books.

Which character – as performed by Rupert Degas – was your favorite?

Even though the story line is pitiful, Rupert Degas does a great job in the performance

    "Storyline is muddled."

Narrator was great, listening to him read the dialogue was much easier than trying to decipher it in print. The book had plenty of interesting plot twists, and provides some level of closure to the trilogy (No details of Hunter or Khan though). Unfortunately, there's a fatal flaw; every major plot twist could, and would have happened without Artyom's intervention. Inserting the ending at any point after the major revalation of the book has absolutely no effect on the outcome of the story. The second half of the book (and parts of the first) feel largely wasted. The major mistake the book makes is ever sending our fearless Stalker back into the Metro when there's an entire world to explore.
Worth a read for the diehard fan of the trilogy, but definitely lacks the magic of Metro 2033.

"Okay book. Ending is a bit of a letdown."
Would you try another book from Dmitry Glukhovsky and/or Rupert Degas?

These are good books, but am only listening to 2035 to complete the tale. Will I read another book by the author. Yes but it will need to grab me early on.

If you’ve listened to books by Dmitry Glukhovsky before, how does this one compare?

It's about the same. Only the ending disappointed me. After being invested in 3 very long and deep books. 2035's ending felt like a cop out.

What does Rupert Degas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He has carried the series in voice acting

Did Metro 2035 inspire you to do anything?

    No

    Any additional comments?

This series is good but sad. It would make for an interesting trilogy of movies if done right.

    "Don't pass this book up!!!"

While this book doesn't have a lot of the supernatural stuff, it's a beautiful tale. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Metro 2033. The story is both gripping and heartfelt.
