Publisher's Summary

The Méridiens are fleeing to their far colonies - and they have reason to run. Over the course of decades, they have lost hundreds of ships, billions of people, and seven Confederation colonies to an alien enemy: an advancing swarm of silver ships transported in the bowels of a gigantic, spherical vessel.

Alex Racine, who once enjoyed the solitary life of an explorer-tug captain, is now an admiral and responsible for the lives of a quarter million Librans. Further complicating his life, Alex's Librans have made it clear they don't want to settle on his home world. They want a new home, and he must secure them one.

The silver ships await Alex's makeshift flotilla at Libre, the last colony they consumed. Thus far Alex's people have succeeded in skirmishes against the enemy's fighters. Now, though, they're preparing to attack the entire alien fleet and halt the devastation of the colonies.

To the surprise and chagrin of his officers and crew alike, Alex concocts a new plan, for he believes humanity faces not one but two alien species, and one may be enslaved to the other. If so, Alex believes, slaves should be liberated, not obliterated.

To test Alex's theory, his people must capture a wholly intact silver ship - a feat never before accomplished. The crew remains doubtful, but their admiral is determined to communicate with the aliens before he's forced to destroy them, and his wish is their command.

    "One More Time"

This is the third book in a series of five. Still plenty of action and adventure. More sci-fi tech is introduced. A new villain appears. And the fun continues.

"It's become a one man show"

S H Jucha's 3rd Silver Ships novel, Meridien was a bit of a disappointment compared to the first 2 installments. Alex must deal with a new New Terran government that is exclusively corrupt and criminal. Eventually, returning to Meridien, Alex and Julian are the only sentients to divine the mystery of the Silver Ships. After a resounding defeat, Alex and his burgeoning colony head off into interstellar space following a less than warm reception by the Meridien home world. At the close, Alex is left to create a growing economic powerhouse that is likely to provide the muscle in this section of the galaxy, but come to be resented by his neighbors.

Th sci-fi elements delve into the nature of the alien race associated with the silver ships, while some clues to their gravitic technology are revealed. The disappointment with this volume is that Alex has grown into a nearly invincible powerhouse that always seems to be a step ahead of everyone else and serves as chief cook and bottle washer. Alex is the only one to see the dangers and devise the plans to overcome the next impediment. Conveniently, all his SADE friends have an opportunity to play critical roles. At the same time, the Meridiens are an odd caricature of a combination of timid mlktoasts and overbearing, stuffy, Victorian-era twits who will accept death over deviating from their precious protocols.

Grover Gardner is outstanding with range, pace, and tone. His narration alone is worth the price of entry. Hopefully Alex will actually be tested at some point as well as allowing others to actually play a role every now and then.

    "This book was boring"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This story was super boring. The last two books were great not sure what happened here. Next time perhaps stay away from all the boring alien communication stuff.

Has Méridien turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not interesting enough. The big enemy was supposed to be the silver ships that were dominating the galaxy but a few min in they are no longer the problem?? Lame

Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?

    The main AI.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Sleep. I tried for two weeks to get into this book 😒
