Lusam grew up in the relative safety of the Elveen mountains with his grandmother. She taught him the basics of magic and discovered, quite by accident, that he possessed a unique skill never seen before: the ability to hide his magical aura from the mage-sight of others.
Dark secrets surround Lusam's origins, and the dark agents of the Empire will stop at nothing to kill Lusam. But before Lusam can be taught all he needed to know about his past, his grandmother unexpectedly dies of a fever, and Lusam finds himself homeless on the unforgiving streets of Helveel. Unbeknown to Lusam, the only thing keeping him alive is a promise he made to his grandmother to always hide his aura, no matter what. Lusam meets and befriends a young thief fleeing her old city of Stelgad before making a magical discovery that will change both their lives forever, and possibly the fate of the entire world.

What a fantastic audio book - the story is gripping and wants you to hear more and is told with great passion and enthusiasm- can't wait for the next one!!
Eagerly anticipating the next instalment of this series. I especially like the multi angle approach to the story and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. Would recommend to anyone.
I really enjoyed listening these books. I can't wait until books three and four are available on audible as well.
I loved this series, and can' wait to see how it plays out. Lusam and company are quite interesting, and I can't wait to see what gets uncovered on their latest foray. I have truly like about Cadam's writing style is how it is descriptive when needed, but not overly stuffed with descriptive details. This looks like it is going to be a long series, and I am going to be eagerly anticipating every release.
"amazing story and narration!!!"
I could stop listening! the story was one of my favorite i have listened to and the narrator was amazing!
"good start can't wait for the rest"
good start can't wait for the rest as they continue to develop. enjoyed the characters.
"simple god vs evil mage saga"
It is a simple fast paced story of a young mage that could have easily gone into greater detail but enjoyable. The greatest plus is the female characters don't get dragged through the mud.
I like the story line and character build in this story. Narration is also good. I would recommend this to others. Looking forward to book 3.
Overall very enjoyable but to call it 2 books is nonsense. A book should have a beginning, middle and end neither "book" had an ending.
Excellent series, very enjoyable story line, simple and direct with little to no filler. able to keep an interest from start to finish.
"Good book, but can't be two books"
I have enjoyed this story but this is two books? This can't be? It is to short and I could not tell where the first book ended. But I like the story and the narrator. I wish I had remembered to look. I usually will check if there are more books to follow the series. Ok so now I have to wait and I hope it does not take long.oh boy! I think he(Lusam) is a nice young man. But very sheltered but learns fast and love deeply and a true nice guy. You want to see him win. The girl his own life and help all that he does.
The storyline keeps you interested and the characters are likable. The magic and the creatures are interesting.
I don't do well reading any more small print kills my eyes and I like doing more than one thing at a time.but the narrator does a very good job with the voices. I know the men from the women and young from old. Simple. I could not do any accents ! So that is always a bonus in my view. Sure my imagination can go into more detail with how the world looks and feels but accents I don't create that in my minds eye view.
It made me want to go on reading the next books. Yes there were times I laughed and was worried about thus situation or that happening. And I had fun on the journey.
Can we please have the next books. And I did not see what else this author had written. I would have liked to try other works by him.can I have 20 or more hours please. And thanks so much. Smile
"Waiting for Book Two"
I really enjoyed listen to this book. I am really upset that I have to wait for the other books to come out. So. Dean please get moving to have and the other books released.
