From author, Mark Wayne McGinnis, who brought you the hit series, Scrapyard Ship and Tapped In, comes a new and exciting new science fiction saga and the rise of the most unlikely new hero.
Seventeen-year-old Collin Frost, the kicker for the Lone Stars high school football team, was not enjoying the bus ride back to the school after a game that hadn't gone so well. The ride was made worse for him when Bubba, the team's defensive tackle, decided Collin should sit in the aisle instead of the seat next to him. That's why when the bus pulled to a stop at a railway crossing in a small town in Middleton Texas, Collin didn't actually see what the bus driver, the cheerleaders, and his teammates saw... a hovering, goliath-sized space ship.
And here the journey of the Lone Star Renegades begins. Abducted into the belly of a sim rover collector ship, sent from a distant galaxy, the Lone Stars must find a way to survive long enough to escape their deathly confines. When that escape finally does come, the teenagers find themselves 23 light years from Earth and smack dap in the middle of an interstellar war. Young and irreverent, the Lone Stars must bargain with the Brotherhood forces for passage back to Earth - a bargain that would require them to complete a military basic training program and inevitably have them fight against Brotherhood's enemies for the duration of one year.

"A good read"
Better for a young adult read but over all it was good. Good story and narrator. Not to spoil it but I wish it were a different alien they found in the ruling galaxy instead of the humanoid.
He did the voices really good for each character, especially the fancy names.
I did laugh a few times.
I would recommend to my younger friends.
"fun read and a fun reading "
I ve got a few issues with the handwavium of the story but it's fun and the issues aren't much of a problem. I'd call it a pretty good young adult book.
"I really enjoyed this book"
I took a chance on this between other book series and was pleasantly surprised. Fun adventure with likable characters. Narration was very good and story kept me in it. Hope book 2 is out soon.
"A disappointing Read"
This book appears to be written with a younger audience in mind.
Ganser's narration is the only reason I was able to finish the book. A lesser performance and I would have given up halfway through.
I'm always disappointed when a book appears to be a stand alone and then has a VERY soft ending apparently preparing for a sequel which in this case I will not be reading. This story has minimal excitement with a feeling of being cheated by the ending. Maybe it's just me but every modern author seems to be trying to stretch out every story to a career. In many cases a trilogy is fine (if well done) but too many series are going to 7 or 8 or 9 books (or infinity if they can get away with it). There's only so many Robert Jordans out there. Just my 2 cents.
It's a pretty good book. You won't waste your time by listening to this. The sequel has great potential. Can't wait to read it.
"Whipee Ti Yii Yo!"
Loved this book for all the reasons I love to read, or listen to, books. The characters became people with real emotions who interacted to attain a goal. A goal that I felt, with emotions I felt, from people who were so real to me that I felt part of the story!
Lone Star Renegades is going right next to The Martian on my top shelf of the keeper bookcase which denotes my very favorites. Perhaps I don't have the most refined of tastes and should be looking for "genres" with the soul searching, cynical exploration of man's soul, so I can affect the mien of one who knows good writing, but I can't do it.
I urge anyone who likes entertainment to spend a credit wisely on this book. Together we can anxiously wait for the next book and the movie I'm sure will result.
