Publisher's Summary

From the day her first Vampire Chronicle was published, critics and readers - readers by the hundreds of thousands - have been mesmerized by the writings of Anne Rice. And with the publication of The Witching Hour, she created for us yet another world and legend, and both the chorus of praise and the multitudes of her readers and listeners once more increased.

Now, Anne Rice brings us again - even more magically - into the midst of the dynasty of witches she introduced in The Witching Hour.

At the center: the brilliant an beautiful Rowan Mayfair, queen of the coven, and Lasher, the darkly compelling demon whom she finds irresistible and from whose evil spell and vision she must now flee. She takes with her their terrifying and exquisite child, one of "a brood of children born knowing, able to stand and talk on the first day".

Rowan's attempt to escape Lasher and his pursuit of her and their child are at the heart of this extraordinary saga. It is a novel that moves around the globe, backward and forward through time, and between the human and demonic worlds. Its many voices - of women, of men, of demons and angels, present and past - haunt and enchant us. With a dreamlike power, the novel draws us through twilight paths, telling a chillingly hypnotic story of occult and spiritual aspirations and passion.

    "Beautifully written, beautifully read,"
Where does Lasher rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Impossible to rank a book that is part of such a unique story. Is is tantalising and haunting from beginning to end.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lasher?

I would have to say Rowan's plight when he held her captive, his treatment of her was so horrific and yet his needs, his yearning, his isolation tugged at my heart strings.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I really enjoyed getting to know Uri, a relatively uncomplicated storyline which allows one to catch a breath from the dizzying plots, twists and turns of the Mayfair clan.

I also found the character of Emaleth captivating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well that would have been impossible as the book is so long but I did my best, listening to it on my phone whilst cooking, cleaning, gardening and cutting the hedges....

    Any additional comments?

As just about to embark on the journey of Taltos .

"Great 2nd Book. I really enjoyed this second book."

I really enjoyed this second book. It leaves me wanting to read Taltus, next book. Anne Rice is a very imaginative author, and leaves you thinking maybe all is not what it seems to be!

"Part 2 - read them in order!"

We are dropped right into the action of part one's finale. Roan and Lasher are on the run while Michael lies in a coma with the family looking on.

Mona, the chillingly clever and capable 13 year old is introduced; and here is my one dislike of the plot as she has it away with Michael and Michael was my hero of the first book; so this sullied him in my opinion.

However ignoring that, we learn Lasher's background and despite knowing all the awful things he's done, you do feel sorry for him as he had such a harsh childhood. Great sequel, am onto the third one now!

    "Lasher"

The most boring indulgent audio book of all time
It goes into boring detail, totally unnecessary.
I had to mark it finished 3/4 of the way through, I could not go on anymore.
    Anne rice your books,
    The wolf gift and
The wolves of midwinter. Are the most wonderful books, well written, descriptive, and two of my favourite books .
But the witching hour and lasher are awful.

    "Lasher's story continues..."

This is a great continuation of the Mayfair Witches. It's predominantly about Uncle Julian's and Lasher's story. The travel through time isn't quite as vivid as the lives of Rice's vampires, but it's still quite good.

Kate Reading's performance is excellant. She has an extraordinary vocal range. I frequently forget that there is only a woman, and not a woman and a man narrating the story. She is definitely in my top 10, if not my top 5 favorite narrators, male, or female, of all time.

Note: There is a lot of incest in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches. It's a Mayfair thing. If incest is very disturbing to you, even when in a fictional work, then you won't like this series. While I don't cotton to incest, I am open minded, especially in regards to works of fiction. Regardless, while I found one character's approach to incest quite amusing, I also found parts of the books content concerning incest very disturbing. It just creeped me out. Perhaps it was meant to. It hasnt repelled me enough to prevent me from continuing on with the series. In fact I'm currently listening to the next book, Taltos, now. Once I finish it I will have completed all of Rice's Mayfair books.

    "The incest was troubling..."

Even though it could be argued that it is crucial to the story.
I did like this story better than the first book. I felt more connected to the characters this time around.
Still...the incest and child abuse was very hard to deal with.

    "Wonderful 2nd book in trilogy"

This is the 2nd book in the story of the Mayfair witches. At this point, the reader is well aquainted with the characters and their history so that the twists and turns of this novel are as enjoyable as they are unexpected.
