Publisher's Summary

Karigan G'ladheon always seemed to be getting into a fight, and today was no exception. But as she trudged through the forest, using her long walk home to contemplate her depressing future - and the expulsion it was bound to hold - a horse burst through the woodland and charged straight for her. The rider was slumped over his mount's neck with two arrows embedded in his back. Wherever his horse was taking him, he would be dead before they got there. There's nothing Karigan can do, as the young man lies dying on the road. He had sworn to carry out his mission as a Green Rider - one of the legendary messengers of the king - and he has a life or death message that must reach King Zachary.

Karigan may be unable to save him, but she can deliver his message. He makes her swear to it, to keep it secret and, with his last breath, he warns her to 'beware the shadow man... 'Pursued by an unknown assassin, following a path only her horse seems to know, and accompanied by the silent spectre of the original messenger, Karigan is going to become a legendary Green Rider herself. Caught up in a world of deadly danger and complex magic, compelled by forces she cannot understand, her simple promise to deliver a letter is about to become a race against time... and a race for her life...

Read by Ellen Archer. Ellen Archer is an acclaimed audiobook narrator and winner of a coveted Audie Award for For the Love of a Dog.

"Superb story of a young woman, riding an adventure"

Karigan Gladheon has been expelled from school and runs away home to tell her father before anyone else does, to put her side of the story, but she meets a Green Rider who is dying from 2 black arrows in his back. She is sworn to take a message to the King of her own Sacoridia, dodging her evil chasers and tormentors to ride the wild ride.
This is a lovely grown ups fairy tale/fantasy story that I first read 8+ years ago and have since read all other Green Rider books in the series because they are fabulously escapist and lifting, exciting and amazing.
If you enjoyed The Hunger Games then you will like this better.

    "Green Rider... action and adventure"

Green Rider has been a long time favorite book of mine, Karrigan tries to return home after a disagreement with the headmaster at school. Everything seems fine until a rider emerges from the forest with two black arrows in his back and she finds herself agreeing to help the dying man. Following a path only the horse seems to know Karrigan is off on an adventure.

Ellen Archer does a great job of narrating this book. Would love to see the rest of these books on audible.

Even my husband, a reluctant fantasy listener enjoyed this book.

Where does Green Rider rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the top 10 for sure

What was one of the most memorable moments of Green Rider?

    Meeting the Berry sisters

Which character – as performed by Ellen Archer – was your favourite?

Karigan has to be the favourite but all the character are extreemly well visulised and documented by a fantastic author.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, although it was not possible.

    Any additional comments?

I have read this book 3 times and although Ellen Archer is not my favourite narrator she was ok. A bit slow and monotone in some parts but overall I got into the story through someone else's voice and enjoyed it. Shame Audible have not got the other books in the series to download!

    Story
    "Boring"

Flat flat flat. Utterly failing to engage. I couldn't summon interest in the characters or the events. I soldiered on until the middle of the book and then had to give it up due to sheer boredom. Above all it all sounded a bit fake and forced. Don't bother.

    Story
    "Prepare for a wild ride!"

The cover first caught my attention and once I read the blurb I was clicking the 'buy now' button. I was expecting the magic and detail of my childhood favourites, such as Tamora Pierce and Garth Nix, and I was not disappointed.
The Green Rider is the story of Karigan G'ladheon, a suspended school girl marching her way home, is come upon by a dying Green Rider who gives her the responsibility of carrying his message to the King, suddenly her life is propelled into dangers, near-death, monsters and intrigue (all on the back of a horse).
The story has been well read by Ellen Archer, and it was a joy to listen to her perform the narrative (her pace and accents suited the story so well).

My only disappointment is that the rest of the series is not available to UK/Australian listeners, and I eagerly await the rest of the series audio release.
