The great debate is over. The human race has rejected the idea of pulling back from the stars and hiding on Earth in the hope the Broa will overlook us for a few more generations. Instead, the World Parliament, by a 60-40 vote, has decided to throw the dice and go for a win. Parliament Hall resounds with brave words as members declare victory inevitable. With the balance of forces a million to one against Homo sapiens' Terra, those who must turn patriotic speeches into hard-won reality have their work cut out for them. They must expand humanity's foothold in Broan space while contending with a supply line that is 7,000 light-years long.
If the sheer magnitude of the task isn't enough, Mark and Lisa Rykand discover they are in a race against two very different antagonists. The Broa are beginning to wonder at the strange two-legged interlopers in their domain; while back on Earth, those who lost the great debate are eager to try again. Whoever wins the race will determine the future of the human species... or, indeed, whether it has one.

"Book 3 the last book, but more could be written"
This is the last book at the time of this review (4-29-13) but the way it ends there could be a few more, these 3 books feel like a prequel for something really huge latter on and I hope the author writes them.
The debate is over and the Humans are going to war with the Broa, its just not a normal war since the Broa dont really know that the Humans exist for sure but it will become something they are aware of soon - the only Broan to meet a Human is the one who was found on the ship in book 1 and hes not talking to any other Broa.
The way this book ends is sorta strange I thought there would be more to the story, its not like it ends incorrectly but it does end in such a way that you want to know more, what happens next sorta of thing. I don't want to give anything away here but really Humans and Broan never meet in battle like I was expecting but the way it plays out is really good - but like I said I hope the author writes more books that go into the aftermath of the end of this book.
This is highly recommended if you like space opera style books, this one not really long enough and not galaxy spanning as most space operas are like Peter F Hamilton or Alastair Reynolds but its up there.
"A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy"
With all 3 books i felt that the middle was a little dragged out but the second half always built up to a satisfying climax. I wish authors of series would completely skip the unnecessary repetition of the main plot line they feel readers need to hear again in order to keep up with the story. We're not that stupid. I most enjoy series with little or no repetition such as the Game of Thrones or the the Passage by Justin Cronin; what a joy to zip along with the plot without the fillers of dragged out recaps. Back to the Gibraltar Stars - once the plot recaps were over and the story picked up pace, the conclusion to the series was highly sanctifying. Performance was OK, but not at the level of top narrators.
"A Wonderful Space Trilogy"
All three books in the series were well written and fit well together. The author is not scared to let characters well built up and feel like friend to "die". (The JK Rowling affect) The pace is excellent ... from an accidental problems, to the world Parliament, to building a Space Navy nearly from scratch.
Many great plot twists and turns, lightly, and appropriately, foreshadowed at appropriate times. At other times things come as a great surprise.
Well developed main characters that were easy to identify with and some recurring characters that over three books you get to know. If I say much more I will give spoilers. I recommend this series for fans of Sci-Fi that is a little (but only a little) on the Space Opera side but with plenty hard core science fiction.

"Left feeling like there should be a 4th book."
I was left feeling like the story was rushed at the very end. I hope the author would come back and do one more story to wrap it up more.
"Great story. Wish there was another book."
Last of the trilogy. Great story. My only objection being that the ending seemed rushed. Unlike other authors nowadays who seem to stretch out stories, it felt like there was much more to tell, but the author rushed to get it into one book. Note to author, really, really want one more!
"good listen...lacking in the action sequences"
good listen...lacking in the action sequences one might expect from a story line centered around galactic survival.
"Interesting story, anachronistic characters"
This was a fun story, albeit not as fleshed out as it could be. I like the large-scale space travel concerns, and the way he puts humanity as the attacker (of sorts).
What I found laughable was however the way he describes men and women - it reads like a 1950s style novel where men are strong and hairy and action-oriented, while women are slightly air-headed and worry about relationships and children...
"Am I the only one"
I listened to the first two hoping it would get better. The premise of the story is good but it takes so long to get to the moments where it moves forward. I didn't feel the love interest added anything to the story - in fact it slowed it down for my tastes. I found myself fast forwarding and realizing that it didn't seem to affect the story much. I feel the author was 'stringing' it out over three books when it could have all fit into one good book.
After trudging through these books sadly I don't think I would give Mr. McCollum another chance.
"Good series, but I suspect the story is not over"
Waiting for book 4 with great anticipation! Hopefully the author is already working on this.
"final book of a trilogy but needs more"
the story through three books is good but the book ends in such a way that you feel you have missed a part of the last books download. there needs to be a 4th book in this trilogy.
