Summary

Seamus is facing life in prison without parole. While doing his time, he's given an option by the Department of Justice and the biggest virtual game maker around, Mindblown Entertainment. If he will help them test long-term immersion, he will get the chance to play the latest game from Mindblown - Alpha World. All he has to do is sign away his legal rights and sign an NDA.

He's the first gamer to be sentenced to life imprisonment in a virtual world. What could go wrong?

Was not expecting that

As LITRPG's go the themes that run through this story are definitely more mature. For the first 2/3 of the book I was taken in by both the excellent writing, and performance. It has a grittier feel than other novels of the same genre which I found appealing. The main character has both an interesting back story, which is well fleshed out, and a relatable outlook on life considering his experiences.

The last few chapters took an interesting turn... what the blurb should probably include is that there are VERY strong adult/erotic themes with fairly graphic descriptions of sexual acts including BDSM and a threesome.

Not sure...

Was enjoying the book, then it went into fantasy porn for over an hour before it got back on track. Going to give the second book a try and see how that goes.

Terrible!

Would you try another book written by Daniel Schinhofen or narrated by Peter Berkrot?

2 Hours in and I cannot listen to anymore, it's a drone of noise that does not keep my attention.

Would you ever listen to anything by Daniel Schinhofen again?

The accent is more 60 year old cowboy rather than gamer.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The whispering and gravel tone completely turned me off this book.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very disappointed and in future will listen to a sample before buying.

Any additional comments?

The writing is shockingly poor, what has the main character so happy about? He is constantly laughing, chuckling or grinning to himself, WHY? This is a rip off from The Gam3 series, best read that first.

Very interesting story line

My only quibble would be that sometimes the narrator is narrating a conversation between characters with a almost sarcastic tone which builds suspense when not needed, makes for edge of your seat listening during ordinary scenes
That said I love his voice very small town sheriff vibe which suits perfectly

Virtual reality mmorpg with a twist

If you can imagine crossing Jack reacher with d&d, and then adding a little carry on style erotica you wouldn't be far off this book. Easy listening with simple plot elements which don't cause a strain on the cranium but the back story develops nicely and left me wanting more.

Just a little boring

The biggest problem with this book is the main protagonist is just not every likable. He comes across as a bit of a douche bag. Outside his love interests the story never really moves along. No antagonist to speak of.

Nice story

It isn’t amazing. But it is a good story, very wish fulfillment. The game world sounds very realized but very different from how a game would actually be developed. The voice at times had be confused as to who was speaking, but that is rare and only with very specific characters.

made me blush

some parts made me blush but it was limited and not overly present. the story has a nice pace with action, "action" and some good friendships made. I did think the intro to the world a bit long but the setting of the character did need it in hindsight so if you arent sure in the beginning. please keep listening its sooo worth it !!!

Nice, if predictable

Performance felt very flat to me, with not enough variance in intonation. The story was fun and compelling, though I'd predicted the ending from very early on.
