Writer, reader, now an avid listener, why hadn't I discovered this before!
I was so excited to get back to Ish and the crew. What a fantastic series this has been.
However, this was a great listen. There's so much going on here, with a new crew member coming aboard and the uncertainty of Ish losing his place on the ship. This novel defo has a much sadder undertone, and Jeffery did a fab job as usual, with all the characters and especially the woman, it amazes me how much each person really has their own twist and voice. I am in awe of what narrators do. But the amazing writing, and drinking and food also still makes me want to drink more coffee and find out how to make spicy beefalow :)
I really did enjoy the full journey though, and the fact that Ish and Bev get together is just perfect, I wondered of the three who he actually might end up with if the opportunity arose. At most points through this book, I kept thinking, come on, I'm routing for him... the ship and almost dying, wow, really great writing and really awesome deductive work from Ish and the crew to get to the bottom of that problem. A mystery I Was happy to follow, as I was with the problems they were having with the new crew member CC.
I was looking forward to the next one, but now I'm not so sure. And I have to say, I think the only thing with it that's bothered me is the preview chapters and then subsequent wanting to skip the first few in the next new book. I also got a taster of the next book, (book 4) before I cut the off switch. And I'm sad if there isn't anything really written of his academy days, I mean to skip 4 years of his life... seems a huge switch. Maybe it will work or not, but sigh. I really wanted to see what happened there too.
I am very much still looking forward to hearing the next book and following on with Ish and maybe Pip and Bev.... guess we'll see when I get there.
Thanks for the great entertainment this week already pre ordered the next :)
"Feel good series"
Adventure, not much danger but a story about a young man finding himself through work and building himself a life. Small if any drama. Some romance.
Not for people who want there daring do and fighting, or great drama. This story has a lot of feel good things happening.
I particularly enjoy the decision making and building himself up. I like how everyone seems to want to help everyone else out, with a few rare exceptions. I like how he tries hard and gets rewarded for it.
Others I know wouldn't enjoy this book because of the lack of down and dirty hard luck, bad times and heart wrenching realism making you reevaluate life. I like it because of that lack. Makes me feel happy. Easy listening.
"One of my favorite authors"
To date this is yhe only book i have ever read to make coffee brewing exciting. I love the series and im happy it is coming to audible.
"Ishmael Wang heads to a new chapter in his life."
"Call me Ishmael" is kind of the running joke of this series, which centers on crewman Ishmael Wang of the interstellar trading ship Lois McKendrick. This book is a transition book, as Ish goes through a huge life altering change at the end of the book, moving on to the next phase of his adult life. As with the other books, this is a very charactercentric book, since there are no battles, no aliens, just the characters.doing their duties on a trading ship. There is an emergency onboard that could have caused disaster, but the excellent response by the crew saves the ship from disaster. The characters are what make this series, and they are excelletly drawn out, with snappy dialogue, real human emotion, and a story that draws you in. As always, Jeffrey Kafer's narration is top notch, really bringing the characters to life with his warmth and snark! Any fan of sci fi should enjoy these continuing stories of Ishmael Wang.
"Skip it and get somebody to tell you how it ended"
Not terrible but definitely doesn't live up to quarter- & half-share. This is the let down book of the series, the one you wait for where the author just can't seem to keep up the high quality of the series. I didn't like or dislike the book but just figure it's a placeholder and I am just going to wait and see if it's a slump or if the magic is gone.
if you loved the first 2 books, go ahead and spend the credit. If you hoard your credits, wait and see if you can get this one on sale. There's only one revelation that is important to the reading of the next book. and somebody can tell you the ending here when the next book comes out.....you really don't need to read this book to follow the series. That's why I gave it a 3 stars. The narrator is as good as ever!
"Great series BUT........"
Great series love all three books. But there are more. Any idea when we will get these?
