"Before you embark on a journey of vengeance, dig two graves." - Confucius.
With the dark cloud of civil war gathering on the horizon, Gabriel Garrett struggles to protect his new home and the new life he has just begun. But as he soon learns, a man's past has a way of catching up with him, and Gabriel has more than his share of dark secrets.
When his world is shattered, he will walk a path of vengeance across a land where the dead hold sway, and the living count their lives in seconds. His enemy is the deadliest he has ever faced, and in this battle, there is no justice, no redemption, and no mercy.
There is only revenge.

A continuation of a great story. With engaging character's.
J L Bourne`s series, but better than that for realism and apathetic characters.
Great voice acting breathing life into the protagonists.
Gab has come full circle. from warrior to defender.
Loved it want more!!
Once again the perfect mix of present and past tense. Fire In Winter not only gives an exciting historical insight into Gabriel Garrett's story, but it also tells the listener how both the main characters are fairing in a world of undead.
The past and present come together in an explosive climax which strengthens both the characters personalities and resolve.
James N Cook at his best. I'm completely addicted...
Yes, i normally like zombie books and really hated book 3 but as had done 3 before i just listened to this as a story and forgot about zombies and just enjoyed the story.
I found this good book to enjoy as it goes along but this time i did not listen expecting many zombies or zombie tales as they are just not there. but knowing it i enjoyed it but not emotionally attached to it either.
Found 3 disappointing as wanted more zombies but just as a standard revenge story this was quite good.
"The best so far..."
First let me start off by saying I'm glad Guy Williams returned to read this volume. Though I thought the narrator of book 3 was serviceable- the series is much better with Guy on the mic. That being said, this to me was the best book in the series. I plowed through the last 5 hours of the book non-stop which is rarely something I find myself doing! The book is centered around Gabe which at first had me concerned as I'm a big fan of Eric and his story. Nevertheless it was an amazing story that adds a lot to Gabe's character and the series overall.
"Where did the zombies go?"
This is an okay follow-up to the rest of the series but where did the zombies go? This one is mostly man vs bad guy after the world ends kingpin - which isn't bad but this author has written very creepy zombie action and tingled my spine in the past so I was a little disappointed. This series may have run its course. If you have read the rest of the series then this one is worth your time but I may or may not start the next one (if there is one.) Let's just say I'm not chomping for a follow-up.
"Gabriels Story - Get The Next Book!"
Gabriel's story fially comes to light. His past and how he uses his "skills" is explained in true adventure form. Full of action and just enough zombie to keep you fearful.
Great twist. Gabe takes lead in this story. Erik, while missed is only a secondary character. great combat description..... and one heck of a sniper battle at the end.
we get more background on Gabe and a great setup for the next story to face Gabe and Erik.
"Don't skip this series!"
so glad i picked the series back up. Starts a little slow, and very little Eric in the book but Gabe is an absolute badass and easily carries the novel. The narrator is dope and I hope he never gets replaced. Great audiobook!
Very good book. I'm going to get the hole series. This says I have to write twenty words. twenty words.
This book on Gabriel helps to round out the series. I think he could have been tougher or smarter and less emotional. But a good book. Actually thought it would have more action. But that comes in "Savages".
I personally liked the 1st two books better and like "Savages" the best. This is good but the book on Hicks was just as good.
A good title. No need to rename.
You'll like this audio book. The characters are sound and remain consistent. Not too many of them either. Gabriel is cool!
"one of the best zombie story's I have read"
I like the characters and the storyline it is more about people than the zombies
book is great. read it five times. still great. will likely read again atleast 3 more times.
Loved it. Could hardly stop listening.
Like the story line. Nice little romances. Will keep listening.
